New Guy, needs help GT3 VS GT3 RS
Hello guys,
I'm new to the forum, I had a Porsche years back, and I'm thinking of going back.
This car is going to be a weekend car and for track events every month.
I'm driving now a Mercedes C63 Black Series, but I want a car more suited to the track.
I have a deposit on a MY2015 GT3.
I would love to have bucket seats and a roll bar, but as you guys now is not possible right now on the GT3, I can't do the regular Porsche seats they give me back pain, so I will have to order the car with Adaptive sports seats Plus.
I heard rumors that the GT3 RS will come with bucket seats and roll bar.
I'm going to order ceramic brakes are they standard on the RS?
Some my question or dilemma is without know the differences in price guessing around 50k, will it be cheaper to get the RS instead of trying to retrofit seats and roll cage to the GT3 since the retrofit is going to cost around 20(guessing)K?
Is it having the Adaptive sports seats Plus going to be a problem with retrofitting the bucket seats later on?
Thank you so much
Can't wait to be more active in the forum and to be on the behind a wheel of a Porsche again

Welcome. Good questions. I will let others respond but I have a question back to you, out of curiosity. Since you are new to the forum, have you heard of the GT3 engine trouble and what is going on? I am tying to sense if "non-forum" people are aware as well or are we biased here on Rennlist. Again, welcome!

The RS is not announced so of course no firm answers, but there are at least good assumptions:
(1) Bucket seats will be available for the RS
(2) North American cars will not come with roll cage, Euro cars will
(3) Ceramics an ( expensive) optional extra on both GT3 and RS
(4) Should be possible to retrofit OEM buckets when available but they will be expensive
(5) Timing of bucket seat availability for the GT3 is not known to me personally.

I do know about the engine issues, I think is a big problem, but it looks like Porsche is taking the step to fix it. I still think the GT3 is a great car.
I can see that you have a GT3 and have a RS pending.
Are you keeping both?
Or the GT3 is stepping stone to the RS?
Ronan
Do you think have the electric seats will hurt on the retrofit of the bucket seats
Thank you

I will not keep both the 3 and the RS. Will trade one for the other. At least that's the plan for now
I don't think the elctric seats would interfere with an after market bucket, as long as they disable the airbag light. While it has been done in the 997, I don't know if it's doable on the 991. My mechanic thinks it can but it's just his opinion.

The Porsche configurator should give you a look at the options. On the RS one of the things to consider is the front lift option. Not everyone wants it, but for me it is great on my 997.2RS. )I am on my sixth splitter on my .1RS.. (cannot get down a ramp into an underground parking lot without scraping it badly)

I have the lift which as many would attest, is the most important option (a few others would disagree). I have steel brakes. Outside of that, cosmetic options like red stitching, dash in leather. I got the upgraded stereo as well.

The RS will be in a different league than the GT3. At least aero-wise, this thing is a freaking monster. If it is also lighter and more powerful and profits of the 918 tires, that thing will fly!
If you want that, go for the RS.
I think the regular GT3 will be more friendly on the normal road.

if you are not on RS list now, you may not be able to get one.
if you are on the list, then take the RS over GT3, there is no reason not too.

Burning Brakes
I would say given the choice and based on the use in which you're planning, hold out for the RS. If you're here in the US you will have to fit an aftermarket or Porsche Tequipment Rollbar. It's still speculation but things are pointing toward the Sport Buckets being available. Also since you plan on tracking the car pretty regularly, I would skip the Ceramic brakes because they wont last as long and will be extremely expensive to replace the rotors. Use the money you save there to buy a set of track wheels and tires and fire extinguisher. If it were a street car only, then the Ceramics would be a nice option.
