I take my cars quite a bit to the track and I pushed the car pretty hard and would fair to say that I could have a really good time in this thing. I'm not going to be breaking any records in it but neither is the GT3, at the end of the day it's about having a fun car.
As far as the V10 plus goes it is about 25K more for a car that doesn't add much, I would rather pay 175K for a V10 and then drop some dough on an exhaust. Boom, I got a ghetto V10 plus.

The R8 is a very cool, gentlemen's car and so are so many others.
What's disconcerting through ALL this mess is that there is no replacement. NONE WHATSOEVER. That's the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by not breaking records w/ the GT3, but respectfully the R8 isn't even in the same stratosphere.

Agree. Cost me a bunch to figure this out. None like a GT3.

R8 experiences
I currently have a 2011 R8 V10 spyder modified by Stasis to their Challenge Extreme. This car is so far above the car I originally purchased that it really isn't the same car. To say it's fast just doesn't do it justice. Imagine hyper speed and you get some sense. The metal gated shifter is very smooth. Handling and exhaust note is superb. It is a true super car. But its not $130k its closer to 230K. I haven't had a chance to drive my GT3 yet but I would be surprised if it were in a "different Statosphere" from MY R8.
It therefore probably isn't an alternative to those who are stretching for the GT3. I owned a 458 at the same time and they were different enough that I didn't think them duplicative. Frankly the Stasis is more of a DD then the 458 ever was.
I owned the R8 GT as well and that was a great disappointment in so many respects not the least of which was that oh so crappy tranny. Perhaps the newer DCT is more satisfying but I doubt it.

I was one of the first in the world to have the Challenge Extreme R8 V10. My car is numbered #8. At that time the Stasis upgrades were $55,000 installed. Today I believe they may be $60,000. My car's MSRP was $172,000. Total costs were $227,000. For that every single system is modified...supercharged engine, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, suspension....

The V10 Plus will be closest to a GT3. The V10 would be fairly close. Costs a bit more, and is a bit more to insure.
Still heavier though it hides its mass fairly well. Not quite as sharp as far as handling goes. Seats are horrible on the track - no significant support. The new dual-clutch is good, but PDK is better. It does have a manual option that is quite good.
Much better as a DD. Except for the fact it attracts WAY more attention than any Porsche (with the possible exception of a GT3RS in skittles colors). It's an exotic and gets treated as such.
Drive one - it will help with the waiting.

I had 14 V10... Awesome car it had the new S-tronic, very nice car the only drawback were the seats and the attention. I had a guy pull up in my driveway one day and he was looking at the car while I was in the house. That was it for me...

Although I was slightly amused when a drunk guy crossing the street stopped to kiss the hood of my car.
