Had the V8 R8 and tracked it quite a bit.

Went on one track day with my friend in his 997gt3

Sold the R8 and ordered the 991 gt3.

It's a great car but more for daily cruising than real track work

In mine after 5 hot laps the temp gauge would be almost at red and I would have to come in to let it cool down. Was a real bummer.

All in all if I wanted to track hard I would not get it.

If I wanted a great looking sounding reliable car thAt I could maybe take to the track a couple of times a year and run it moderately hard then you'll love it.

Cheers

I will have to drive an R8. For what it's worth I enjoyed my F430 (had for 4 years) alot more than my 11 GT3RS.

I'd get the Lambo Hurray-Kan or whatever they call it over the old R8.

I agree with your comments about the tranny on the older R8 models. I just got done driving an R8 V10 in Vegas on one of the exotic car tours and the time it took for the car to shift under full throttle was pretty bad. The car did have 100K miles on it so maybe it was needing some servicing. New models have a newer tranny I understand. Nice car other than the tranny.

The model I drove had the new double clutch in it and it felt like my M3 or M5 with the DCT. I have no complaints with the tranny. I can see the problems with tracking the car but I can imagine having to come in after 4-5 laps, which I am very used to in the M3 I had, but it's all part of the growing pains process.

I'm not sure if this is the car I want, but I'm starting to l like it more and more.

^^The r8 is still a "car" even though it looks more exotic. Its not as fragile as the Italians are. It's also not as exciting.
