Default Where will all the engines go?

Porsche said it will replace all 785 engines..all those cores get sent back.
What wii they do with them?
They can't fix 'em and re-install them in the 2015 run can they, as new?
Or can they?

785 engines is one expensive pile of scrap

Of course they can. Break down the parts and just use a new block

Good question. I'm no expert, but for cars that have already been in service, I don't see how parts can be reused and sold as new in any way. Perhaps they could have a life branded as remanufactured replacement parts or be used in executive cars and loaners. For brand new cars that were never driven or delivered, maybe intakes, exhausts, ancillaries, even some internal parts could find their way back to the assembly line. I don't know how that works.

They won't be used in new cars!

They'll be updated to the new spec and then they use them as replacement-engines in case of an engine-exchange on a customer car.

I speculated on this in the Stop Sale thread. My guess is that engines in undelivered cars, whether at the plant or port, will be rebuilt and replaced in cars as new. Engines from delivered cars will be rebuilt and sold as refurbs.

What'll be interesting is how Porsche handles the matching numbers situation. For cars still at the plant, it'll be easy enough to pull, rebuild and replace the same engine so all numbers match. But for undelivered cars at the ports, will Porsche send a rebuilt engine with a matching number? If so, what will happen to the engine that is pulled and returned to the factory? Can it's number be changed so that it'll go back out with a number matching the car it's intended for?

The above is nothing more than my guess

Porsche will probably smelt the metal and reuse it for future parts.

imagine seeing them all in one wharehouse....

Porsche now knows it would have been better to test them in limited numbers racing before going mass production in street cars. The way the Mezger was produced....

Porsche design- they'll have BBQ grills cast and fitted over the intake manifolds and sell them as $10k BBQs at the dealerships...

I'll take the risk, strap it in a Cayman!
