Hope not.. --Wonder it that would be 2 weeks, or > 1 month.
Replacement with a remanufactured transmission on my then-new 997 was a 3 week ordeal (a recall followed). Had no problems (well, with the transmission at least) for the 32k miles that followed.
Dealerships do not rebuild major components like engines and transmissions; it is too time consuming for the service department, and too expensive for Porsche. Remember that dealers charge Porsche for warranty work.
Let me go one further-Would any reasonably intelligent human being really accept their new 150k GT3 have its factory engine pulled and a brand new one put in. i mean are people really serious?
What's the difference b/t the engine originally put in and the improved factory engine in terms of value to the customer?
If they caught the fault before delivery, pulled the original motor, replaced it and shipped, you have a problem with that?
Was there something sacred about the original fastening hardware holding in the original motor?

No doubt Porsche would need to sweeten the deal with an extended warranty to placate buyers of said $150k car, or offer the option of a buy-back and next available production slot.
That expensive new inventory is being put into loaner service nationwide tells me that the above scenario will indeed be the case; it does not seem like the solution will be a minor fix. Guess we will hear for sure tomorrow...

See other thread. 1 month to fix these cars according to inside source.
Just a thought : you guys should definitely take the loaners to the track so you don't miss events!
I did that with a BMW. They were not pleased when photos showed up on the internet of their car (dealer name displayed on the side) sliding through some cones.
