Default black vs basalt black, ease of care

I saw a new 991 GT3 in person in the standard black finish with PCCB's and yellow belts and it absolutely stunned me.

My fear of ordering black for my August GT3 build is that in my experience black tends to show scratches easily just from cleaning. Currently my color choice is Guard's Red with Racing Yellow as a fallback if PTS falls through.

Does basalt black with it's metallic flecks hide these scratches compared to standard black?

How much worse than red or yellow will taking care of either black finish be?

The car will be driven on nice days only.

Thanks in advance..........

Black isn't a color, it's a part time job.

IMHO Having owned a black Mercedes E63 AMG we will never own another black car. Yes it looks outstanding for the first five minutes after a detail ... It's all downhill from there.

It's still black - I originally ordered basalt but changed my mind after looking at 3 basalt cars at my delaership. They all had visible swirls and spiderwebs. If normal black is a 10/10 on the maintenance, basalt is a 9/10. I ordered GT Silver... a 2/10

I think you answered your own question John I had a 997 TT in Basalt and wont be ordering Basalt again. Its just not the same. The deepness of the flat black is something else. During day time black is much nicer. Forget about the swirl mark. You can polish that after 3 or 4 yrs.

In my experience, Basalt doesn't seem to show dust nearly as much as regular black, which is what I have now. I went with Basalt. Will let you know if I'm disappointed once I get my car!

Life's too short ... Non-metallic black is a nightmare,had that on my 997 C2S and never again.

If you're gonna do it, go for the gusto: Gloss black. Then get very familiar with the waterless wash system at home.

Seriously. My 12 Turbo S was flat black and holy crap did was that thing a monster to keep clean. My 13 GTS is Jet Black (metallic black for Cayenne) and even that thing shows loads of swirls. On the other hand, my Daytona Gray R8...that is now almost 5 years old and been relatively speaking "abused" wash wise...still looks better than either of the other two...this is why I too ordered GT silver for my 991 Gt3 lol.

Reidry: "Black isn't a color, it's a part time job". Very funny. I also suspect
you are right.

Black looks amazing when well maintained...but "ease of care" should likely be rephrased as "difficulty of care." That said, 3 of my redent cars have been black, so I fully understand the temptation!

Quick answer: Basalt Black shows everything. The metallic aspect is nice as the color changes with light, but it is a pain to maintain.

Few would argue the beauty of a black car when it's clean. It is strikingly beautiful. Granted, we all know how much work it takes to maintain a clean black car. So I guess that makes it "high maintenance."

Sound like something else? Yes... sounds remarkably similar to a beautiful woman. Generally, she's a lot higher maintenance than less beautiful "options" as well. But would I take a pass on beautiful woman based simply on this fact? Oh hell no.

That's how I feel about a black car. Yes it takes a bit more maintenance. But it's TOTALLY worth it! :-)

So you're saying 'regular' black shows less wear and is easier to maintain than Basalt?? I too am going with a black exterior and would like to know more on this.
