Default GT3 Trickle Charger.

Hi,
got the porsche trickle charger. Whats the best way to extend the chord out of the car. This guy just puts it thru the door. But someone mentioned not to do it.

Any thoughts or other advice on winter storage in Chicago.. LOL.. This is no LA with the PCH & Malibu, but I plan to drive it on weekends on Lakeshore drive once and a while thru the winter if they ever get the salt off the road here.. !!!

In my 991 I use the outlet in the passenger footwell, crack open the passenger window and run the cord out there. I don't like having it pinched against the door gasketing.

Alternatively, you can connect it directly to the battery.

You're probably not as dumb as me, but I stopped doing that after driving off a few time still connected to the charger. You can't see it down there. I now crack the drivers window a quarter inch and run it in there. That way I always see it getting into the car.

That's what I do. I have a connector "permanently" attached to the battery. My CTEK charger plugs into that. I just keep the hood slightly ajar which also serves to give you a warning in the OBC display that helps prevent absent minded drive offs with the charger plugged in.

I use the cigar lighter socket in the center console in the Cayman -cord out the passenger window. On the end of the plug I have a small banner that says 'remove before flight' so I don't forget.

I believe the footwell outlet only stays active for 30 min after the car is turned off.

I use it for my V-1 and if I forget to manually turn it off - the next day when I open the door it becomes live and powers up.

Something to consider if you try to run juice into the battery through that socket.

I used the crimped in the door method for 5 years and never once had a problem. I had the window cracked before that and when driving I was surprised by a large black widow spider which are prevalent in my area of Fl. So, the windows never stay open in the garage anymore, esp in the summer. The wire never crimped in the bottom part of the door.

This video (1) reminds me to pick up one of those battery maintainers and (2) makes me so thankful to live in CA for the opportunity to enjoy these cars year round.

Ditto. No issues with crimping. I found the best spot to run the cord (imo) was the front edge above the upper door hinge.

lol, but really, after we all spend $130K++ for our cars whats the cost of replacing a wire on an $89 Trickle Charger or some door soft molding?

Guaranteed you wont harm a single thing going through the bottom of the door. Just give the door a firm slam.

This is the method I use and have never had a problem either. I was reluctant at first, but never had a problem with the wire on the charger, or the door seal.

I had mine hooked up that way for three months last year and it was indicating power on when I disconnected it.

Door method for as long as I remember and no issue beside driving with it plugged in. The shock and the sound of it is very funny. Big relief when you look at the wall and see a dangling wire.

Cheers
