I have Ducati Superleggera which has a magnesium frame - Ducati did lots of tests comparing carbon with aluminium and magnesium and found magnesium offered many benefits that carbon (lightness) offers along with Alu which allows the frame to flex - so the magnesium gave both qualities of each with lightness too - the problem they found with carbon was it was too stiff and therefore affected the handling; Alu was heavy and the project was all about lightness. I have to say, the bike handles amazing compared to the frame on the R bike - so the RS WILL be amazing I reckon.

My chemist buddy says that Sun light is very damaging to CF and the resin required to protect it is very expensive and adds weight. This kinda reminds of some yellowing of interior bits on past Porsches.
I've ridden a Magnesium bicycle and it does ride a little softer than a full CF bike.

Magnesium is cool lightweight stuff, just don't ignore it. Ask Mercedes about it....

Porsche made both the engine crankcase and gearbox out of Magnesium on my 1973 911. They've been using the stuff for 45 years for major components.

my 997 RS was a tight fit in my trailer, I can't imagine how hard its going to be to get one of these J-Lo booties in an enclosed trailer......

Good point. Probably would be a very tight fit even on an open Trailex. Anyone checked the dimensions?

Yes, funny how the 964 can swing open the door with window frame easy access.. 997RS I could barely get out without window frame. Well at least I carpeted the trailer inside, but it will be tight.

For what it's worth, I used to routinely bottom out my 996.2 GT3 Club Sport in the compression at the bottom of Fuchsröhre at the Nürburgring. We actually had to raise the suspension to counter that.

Had not thought about the width on a trailer...I use an open Trailex, no problem with 997.2RS. Hopefully will not be a problem.

Porsche lists:
991 Turbo Width 74.02"
997GT3RS Width 72.91

Now I'm not sure if this is body panel width or tire track width but it gives you a good idea that the 991RS will be wider than the 997RS

I came across a white 991 Turbo in Boca last week. It appeared slightly lowered on custom wheels.

Being the same body as the upcomng RS, I could not help but visualize it with a large wing.... I think the new RS is going to have one hell of a presense on the street.
