In a perfect world Porsche would develop a 7.0L V8 or Flat 8 for the 960. 125hp x 8 cylinders = 875 NA horsepower.

If it wasn’t for the greenies who now rule the world, Porsche could have doubled the size of the current 4.6L in the 918. 9.2L x 8 (@125) = 1,150hp. It would have been awesome. Unique. Bespoke. Worthy to be put in a car with a million dollar price tag. And it wouldn’t be going in the direction that Ferrari, McLaren, etc. are going with their BS trickle-down tech ala Formula 1. 1.5L V6 turbo-hybrid puke. No one cares about MPG in a car that will ultimately burn 1/100 of the amount of fuel that the average Prius will use in their respective lifetimes.

Sure, your mileage would be less than the current set-up, unless they employed cylinder deactivation, ultra-high pressure DI, overdrives, etc. But even with a large displacement V8 and engine block tech being the same as the 918’s would have meant the car still would have been theoretically ~300Lbs lighter still than with all the hybrid stuff…but I digress.

Regardless, I think the cat’s out of the bag on the GT3 RS and they should just release it at Goodwood in a couple of days. Let us move on to our tiny displacement, eco-hybrid future utopia that no manufacturer wants to fight for when it comes to ‘special’ cars. The 992 "GT?" RS should sound about as good as my Dyson vacuum cleaner.

While some of this is completely absurd (and I mean this in a very way), what you said reminded me of the 2007 Weineck Cobra. I believe it was limited to 15 cars worldwide, none came to the US. It pushed out 1100hp@7000, 1069t@3600-7000, 1298t@5600, from a 12.9L, naturally aspirated V8. 0-124 time was quoted at 4.9s if you can get the rear wheels to hook up (I believe 1st and 2nd gears were pretty useless).

It only relates in the sense that Zeus was talking about about large displacement N/A engines, and it reminded me of the Weineck.

Otherwise... off topic.

I still think the RS may be 12 to 15 months away from hitting people's garages. My Dealer told me yesterday that this whole fiasco has thrown things off by almost a year. They do not expect any "true" 2015 GT3 allocations until the Fall for Spring delivery and then he says they are done with the GT3 and no details about its future

I remember the Weineck vividly. But I don't think it met any type of emissions - in any country. I'm very good at derailing a thread.

Count me in as someone who wants to see Porsche stick with NA engines in at least 1 or 2 of their models. GT3/RS included.

Let the GT2 & Turbo chase the hp/torque numbers.

Yeah, sounds reasonable to me, to be honest. Feels like it'd be a MY2016 car.

I don't think the RS is that far out. Dealers know less than we do.

I agree. While this engine issue obviously delayed things, if they wait much longer the GT3RS with be a thing of the past before it is released. They know this. Even with the GT3, 6 months ago it was a stand out, now it's a good value...

Without inside knowledge and based only on the indebth searchers online cutting through the crap, I really think the RS with be released soon. Mistakes of a model car leak are not mistakes... And if they are, The manufactures will still capitalize on it.

My local dealer just told me that the coming GT3 RS will only be MY2015, no MY2016. There will be GT2 as MY2016, which I think is 991.2.
Does this mean GT3 RS will be limited

Did your dealer give the source, i.e. from PAG or PCNA/Atlanta?
No MY2106 would REALLY ratchet down supply ...
Is this to focus production on a GT2?

911dev - I will not disagree with your statement about the Dealers. That has been concluded over the past 6 months.

I guess time will tell. The interesting thing is when do you think they will roll the GT3RS out to the public?

Also, in the past have they manufactured both the GT3 and the GT3RS at the same time or do they wait for the GT3 production to end?

I don't know where the source is, it's what the manager told my friend who is a sales person. If it's true, it's good for people holding the RS allocation, including me
