Break-In Period for the GT3
So I'm hearing different things on the break in period on these new cars that we are all starting to take delivery of. Wanted to get some opinions on the matter from some people that are better versed than myself in GT3's.
Some people are saying you need to break it in and others are saying you don't need to break it in. Personally on my M3 and my M5 it was a "mandatory" 1200 mile break in period that you couldn't hit more than 90 MPH and couldn't rev higher than 5000 RPM.
Just wanted to see what the others are doing for there break in periods.

This has been discussed at length in a couple of recent threads, and you're right, opinions are all over the map. And that's just what they are...opinions...since there is no definitive data or study that proves or disproves which way is best. Even Porsche representatives and the manual give conflicting information. Pick a break-in methodology that seems right to you. It will be really hard for anyone to prove you're wrong.

This does not appear in the ROW ownership manual. Is this from the GT3 ownership manual? Must be USA only if so.
The ROW manual has a much shorter statement. IIRC it makes no mention of 4200 rpm etc and just covers off cold start and excessive period at high rpm...

^right. USA and ROW manuals have different but similar verbiage.

You beat me lol!. I went easy(ish) for the first tank of gas. Not over 7000rpm and always long drives, warm engine. Then I nailed it.....just like the factory told me to!

Thompson Autosport in Pennsylvania advised 1000 U.S. miles with no prolonged sustained RPMs in excess of 4200 ... i.e. no tracking until then.
Interestingly my GT3 will not allow blipping the throttle past 4200 RPM at standstill (in Park or Neutral) to test exhaust tone. Dealer was unaware. Questioning whether this factory tune limiter is permanent or expires at end of break-in period. Of not much import, but curious. Perhaps factory has limited RPMs in absence of load to lessen engine risk ...
