Trofeos are no different to MPSC2s and the Dunlops... I'd say any treaded Rcomp tyre like the Trofeo and MPSC will be fine... Any slick like Rcomps like Hoosiers are considered racing tyres and would likely void warranty...

As I see it treaded R comps are good, slick Rcomps will cause one grief with warranty...

I wonder how Porsche will know if some one uses slicks and swaps them out? Record G forces?

What are you--some kind of lawyer???

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Tires don't matter because all track activities are ex-warranty anyway.

Not true. Track action doesn't void the warranty on the 991 gt3. Old 997 manual said it would. New 991 doesn't mention it so that means it's ok. This was discussed

i really think its quite straightforward

racing cars / Cup cars = racing slicks, from endurance slicks to sprint softs
road cars / track cars = DOT approved tires, R-compounds, road tires, anything that can be legally driven on the road

yes, in some cases there is an overlap between one and the other. a cycled out, worn endurance slick will be slower than a brand new trofeo R. But like someone already said, this is most likely to just cover bases and scare customers off from turning their 991 gt3 into a race car

fyi, 991 Cup is fraught with issues. 2013 car is a disaster. 2014 has FIFTY updates.

Tom, the discussion was here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/...ck-manual.html

There is new wording that suggests Porsche won't void the warranty unless certain more stringent maintenance requirements for track use are not followed.

Different language from the Pirelli website regarding the Trofeo R:

Specific for racetrack driving, it is approved for road use, enabling travel to the track. In the event of very wet asphalt, with the risk of aquaplaning, prudent driving at reduced speed is recommended.

The decision on what's really covered under warranty and what isn't will come down to your relationship with the dealer and your dealer's relationship with PCNA/PAG, etc. The manual wording will only come into play if you go to court or when your local dealer doesn't play ball. In both of the latter cases, it's pretty tough for the little guy to win.
