It's almost good news....every GT3 I've ever owned has had a very distinct personality, glad they haven't tuned out the random misbehaving

BMW horizontally opposed twins, like Porsches, are also pretty well known for the same occasional smoke on start-up, especially when left on the side stand. I can't speak to Subarus; only owned one Subie in 45 years and didn't keep it long enough to notice much of anything about it.

In another thread, I almost posted this as a reason for the GT3 possibly not meeting Euro 6 regulations in the near future. Perhaps it has something to do with the 'particulates' emitted upon start-up. Makes sense at least...

Can't hold it against you for not owning a Subie, lol... It's just my everyday beater and wheel carting vehicle...

Not that a puff of smoke matters beyond the looks you get when you 'big $$$' car lets one rip worse that a Datsun 120Y, but whilst dry sumped and with a collection pan now at the bottom of the engine, I would have assumed they had this flatulence issue licked...

Chris, my Subie comment probably came across as a knock....just meant to say that my owner's experience was very brief so not particularly memorable. I know people who swear by them....

Wife has a beater Legacy GT for 13 years and still going strong. Never smoked. The GT3 on the other hand randomly smokes the entire garage.

Never owned a Subie, but know many people who swear by them and buy one gen after another or just keep one forever. I'm actually trying to convince my dat that it would be a good winter beater for him in Toronto. Seems like a perfect utility car, that's good enough to get you there but simple and tough enough not to worry about it.

I have seen smoke out of plenty STIs, but not sure if that was normal or result of tuning or abuse.
