Default Phone Prep Option

Can any one who has taken delivery confirm that the Phone Prep Option gives you Bluetooth capability. My sales guy is saying that you need to add Telephone Module to get Bluetooth capability based on the cars they just received. I don't think he is correct.

Tom I checked that box with the same impression....Bluetooth. I thought the module was for a SIM card or the Porsche handset I wasn't sure either

It's my understanding that you need the "Mobile Phone Preparation - 619" option

Yes I agree but now my sales guy is saying you need the Telephone module which negates the phone prep option.

I think the “Mobile Phone Preparation – 619” box automatically gets checked whether you check it or not (and this gives you Bluetooth). Not sure about the Module but it’s not on my build. I think that’s if you want a hard-wired / old-school phone.

Here's my understanding:

If you want your external mobile phone to connect via Bluetooth to PCM you need Mobil Phone Prep $0 option #619. This option is NOT automatically selected, you have to check that box on the order.

If you want integrated Bluetooth mobile phone capability using the PCM SIM card slot you need the Telephone Module $265 option #666.

Mike is correct. I confirmed this with my dealer as well.

Well I guess I'm still confused. I don't know what integrated Bluetooth using PCM SIM card actually means. If its a SIM card installed than you have a phone installed in the PCM and Bluetooth makes no sense.

Porsche's description below. What I take from this is that Bluetooth capability is still available for earpiece connection or other Bluetooth devices but the basic phone function resides in the integrated PCM/SIM interface.

Regardless of the verbiage, the bottom line is that if you want a SIM/phone integrated with PCM instead of an external handset, get option 666, Telephone Module. If you have a regular handheld mobile phone, you need Mobile Phone Prep option 619 if you want it to communicate via Bluetooth with PCM.

Telephone module
Includes: •Internal quad-band GSM telephone module with Bluetooth® interface for ease of use and optimized sound quality, enables same hands-free phone operation as standard Bluetooth® mobile phone connection

•Additionally provides alternative operation modes with SIM Access Profile (SAP) to use the vehicle’s antennas to save the handheld’s batteries and improve connection quality or with a separate SIM card that can be inserted into the PCM

Hi Mike -- so to put it simply:

1. Mobile Phone Prep = If you want to connect your existing mobile phone to your car via Bluetooth, in order to use your car's system like a speakerphone. Basically, like most other auto manufacturers.

2. Telephone Module - If you want to be able to physically install a SIM card into your car, so that it essentially has a phone integrated into its system.

Is that correct?

When I picked up that 14 cayman s the dealer told me....and you know how dealers are, said that the sim slot was for European car set ups? I didn't really give it much more thought, however my cellular provider will only register one SIM card per acct on my service with the same number so i would have to setup a gt3 phone with a separate number and sim to use the sim option if I were so inclined.

Is that right?

I have Mobile Phone Prep and I did not get Telephone module. I am able to use my iPhone via Bluetooth connection.
Mike's description and 0Q991's understanding are correct.

Ok thanks! My sales guy was tying to have me add Telephone Module because on the two GT3's they received they could not get the phones to work with mobile prep. Must he operator error.
