Hmm, I am a software engineer. I voted engineer (which is *my* personal opinion LOL) but was the expectation that I have voted under IT? I ask because of the comment:

which is completely not true for software engineers

let's move the toilet, add a bidet next to the toilet so we can poop together. pls move the light switch 2" to the right and .5" higher. the room is all wrong, it will not work with my ear ring box. and i demand the garage to be 90% of total FAR....

Hence you guys aren't engineers. But being serious, many have explored the question of whether software developers are engineers, and the majority seem to say they're not because, unlike recognized branches of engineering, software developers don't draw heavily on the natural sciences and directly work with the physical environment.

Haha. Didn't realize that was the definition. What about electrical engineers then? Or those software engineers that are much lower level dealing much more closely with hardware, signals, dsp, etc. Shoot, I guess I shouldn't hijack the thread.

No official definition I know of, but I think that's the majority view. Electricity is physical, so electrical/computer engineers count.

There in lies the niche....I've been there, done it enough that they trust me to make those decisions for them.
