Default serial number

Hello everyone! I just got a call from my dealer to tell me my car has been produced has a serial number. Does anyone know how to tell what number my car is in the production run? My last six digits are 1833201. I know it's not really relevant, just curious. Thanks.

I got one too many threes in there. 183201. Is it as simple as it's the 201st?

My understanding is that the last 4 digits are the numbers that identify the actual production sequence, or at least the order in which production was assigned. In my case those numbers were 3083. The link below has a good description of what all the characters in the VIN mean.

Hi Mike. I'm brand new to the forum.
I'm waiting on my GT3 and I received my VIN last week: Last four was 3183.
I looked on the link you supplied but didn't really specify that it meant the order. Just like mtuttle…I suppose that means the 183rd GT3?
Production is suppose to be done mid-late Dec with a Late January in my possession.
I'm so antsy. Before I was expecting to drive it late Nov…then mid Dec… and now late Jan. UGH!!!

Hi Leilani, and welcome!

You ask a really good question. Honestly, I'm not completely sure how to interpret that number but it seems reasonable that your car might have been the 183rd built for the US market since some of the other characters are used to identify the VIN by country. It can't have been the 3183rd since that would be too high for GT3's, but too low for all 911's, so your guess is as good as mine as to what it really means. You can google other info on Porsche VIN's, and while that Wikipedia link I posted was among the easiest to understand, it obviously isn't completely up to date since it doesn't include 991 models.

As for the wait, I know exactly what you mean!

In this case, I'm almost sure the first US production model is 3061. Thus, your car is the 23rd US 991 GT3.

Since the beginning of the 80's, the first production model is number 061. The number 001 to 060 are used for prototypes and preproduction cars.

That makes a lot of sense that the prototypes and preproduction cars would be included in the serial run. Thanks so much for that clarification, 928cs!
