Default destination charge

As the 991 GT3 is a hot item, I think most of us are stuck paying MSRP if we are fortunate to get an allocation. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard of anyone getting a discount from MSRP on 2014 GT3)

My question concerns the "destination charge" that is included on the Porsche website and my tentative bill from the dealer, although my allocation isn't locked for 5-6 weeks.

The destination charge is $995. Is everyone here paying that charge, anybody getting out of it somehow?

destination is non negotiable or discountable.

dealer gets 10% off on car, 15% off on options, pays full destination charge, they get "trunk money" after the sale.. and they have to pay additional fee's for their software/etc..

discounts can be found only if you're a good and repeat client... we have a discount set up with our dealer but we also buy one of every model they sell at agreed price...

even at full msrp, the GT models are the best value retention of any porsche made.

Good to know. I was able to negotiate my way out of the destination charge on my previous new Porsche (and a few thousand more), but I definitely got the impression from my local dealer that there was no wiggle room on the GT3.

The 991 GT3 is an incredible deal at $130,000, considering how it performs relative to cars that cost twice as much. Particularly in the US. I can't believe how much people have to pay for this car in New Zealand and Europe. This forum has really opened my eyes as to how lucky Porsche buyers are in America.

$310,000 is the cost for a GT3 in Australia? OMG!
That's almost as much as a Ferrari F12 would cost in the USA

Can you or someone else educate me as to why a GT3 costs so much in Australia? I assume their is some kind of tariff on imported cars, but having to pay 3X as much for the same car just isn't fair.

It's a complex socialist equality/pity scheme on the part of Porsche, whereby wealthy non-American nations are forced to support our subsidized pricing.. Sort of a legalized robin-hood arrangement because we're so in debt that they feel they need to help us out. Just don't ask questions, keep looking really hungry and distraught by your financial position, and keep your head down.. Maybe they won't notice for just a little bit longer. I mean ****, we pay even less than they do in their home-country of Germany, they must reeeeeally feel badly for us..... Hee hee!!!

Two main reasons...

i) Taxes- Of that $330k price tag, more than $110k is taxes... luxury car tax, stamp duty, GST etc...

ii) Currency exchange- taking away taxes the base price of the car is approx $220k Aus... As the US$ has traditional been the benchmark currency and since historically the Aus dollar can drop as low as $0.65 US, Porsche sell to Aus at the worst case scenario as if our currency exchange is at this level. When our $ is strong as has been the case for the past several years, no correction is made, they just take the added margin ($0.30 in the dollar) as cream and we get the big jar of vaseline...
