One of the definitions of coveted is "to wish for longingly." That's what people who have ordered are doing. Considering that customers have not received their orders yet this award is ill timed. Call me old fashioned, but porsche needs to deliver before any further praise is called for on this 911 variant. I am sure it will be a great car when it arrives, but when?

Macca 11-04-2013 06:02 PM

LOL. Coveted is indeed quite apt! Actually I don't think any North American clients were due to get their 991 GT3 before January even without the delays. However don't fret, the latest whispers from PAG side indicate the production line will start rolling next week!!

P.S. The Evo edition is January 2014. They issue the Jan magazine 6 weeks before its due date for some reason in the UK. First UK deliveries are scheduled within 10 days of production and earliest UK customer production dates are confirmed as 14 Nov with options already locked down.....so they will have thier cars with customers by early Dec....however that's not the subject of this thread.

Outside of the U, S of A EVO is pretty much the most respected piece of motoring journalism available to the English speaker. COTY is not taken lightly, is very thorough and is very much looked on as an industry stalwart.

@Macca -- The info on Evo's COTY is great, but overwhelmingly overshadowed by your insider need of the production line starting!!!

Any other tidbits you can share? :)

Hi. I'm afraid very little in reality. I understand a letter/statement is to be issued to clients/dealers this week and its been strongly indicated this will declare production has started (11/11). All un-substantiated Im afraid but looking likely. Hopefully they throw PCCB in for free for the first ROW 100 orders that have been kept waiting LOL! Never happen tho...

@Macca -- Appreciate your comments, as always. Thanks for being a great resource of info! It's made the wait (a little) easier. ;)

Thanks for the info, Macca....

Thanks for the heads up Macca...
I really believe the 991.GT3 is epic; 4yrs development I expected as much.
Evo really has exceptional reviews & this is another feather in Porsche's hat.

I love my 997.1RS.....& can see this joining it in my garage.

In order :

ECOTY 991 GT3 43 Points

2. Ferrari F12 36 Pts
3. Mercedes Benz AMG SLS Black 35 Pts
4. Aston Martin V12 S 28 Pts
5. Audi R8 V10 Plus 25 Pts
6. Mini Cooper JCW GP 24 Pts
7. Cayman S 19 Pts
8. Alfa Romeo 4C 6 Pts

Six judges with first place awarded 8 pts through to 1 pt for eighth

Quoting from Henry Catchpole's prose:

"...when the scores came in, the margin of victory was clear. Like the SLS and F12, the GT3 only topped two people's lists, but the fact it made everyone's top three clinched the win. As Richard Meaden said (not for the first time): "It plays the averages without being in any way average." Both he and Duff did question the sheer pace of the GT3, Mike harbouring a suspicion that 'with 90 per cent of the straight line pace and 80 per cent of the lateral grip, it would actually be a better road car.'

Vivian was having none of that, however: 'For me it was all about connection. The GT3 made me feel more connected with the road and my own abilities. Like a movie directed by someone who wants to let the action do the talking, there's an honesty and focused intensity about the GT3 that no other car in eCoty could get close to. If it's less of a '911' than the last GT3, i don't really care. It is simply one of the best cars I've ever driven.'

Nick certainly wasn't nostalgic either: 'The engine is out of this world - a suitably epic follow-up to the Mezger. Jethro mentioned that he misses the chunter and response of the Mezger, but I'll happily trade that for the top end zeal of the new engine.' A bit of chunter wasn't the only thing that Jethro lamented initially, but in the end he was besotted: 'I miss the old 'box...but the chassis on this car is nothing short of scintillating. It grips harder than anything else here and yet invites you to experience everything it has to offer more regularly than you'd dare in the SLS or F12. It feels smalls and agile just when the others start to intimidate, and the way you feel locked into the chassis' every moment is something else. We might be a bit disappointed that this car won eCoty, but we're not at all ashamed of the result."

Bill. Thanks for the over view. The F12 has been second in a few reviews. Magic bus. As the magazine only came out 48 hrs ago and mine hasn't yet made it down under, anything new or interesting you can enlighten us with? How did it perform on the track and was it a tight competition score wise?

TomTom77 11-05-2013 07:53 AM

Not surprised on the GT3 winning, based on reviews to date. However, I'm quite shocked to see the 4C finishing behind the Cayman S and Cooper JCW GP.

Macca 11-05-2013 08:02 AM

Yes dissapointed too for the 4C. I thought that might be a great little track car. Obviously it has a few handling foibles...

jumper5836 11-05-2013 10:51 AM

I find it surprising the Cayman is even on the list. That must be an amazing car.

Macca 11-05-2013 04:05 PM

The Caymen S was launched in 2013 and is a sports car hence its inclusion, nothing more or less (like the 4C).

Nizer 11-05-2013 04:13 PM

An interesting 4C/Cayman comparison with parallels to new vs old GT3:
