Default Purchasing/Scarcity Question

Hi All,

Love what I'm reading/hearing about the new 991 GT3.

My question: If I went into my local Porsche dealer in a year or two to order a car, would that be possible? Or is so rare that if I don't get my name in now, I'm out of luck until the next gen?

I don't have much knowledge about buying cars this rare. I searched the allocation threads, but didn't see this addressed exactly.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Welcome and good question! Nobody knows exactly how long the production run will last and what demand will be down the road. My medium sized dealer now has at least 16 potential buyers on their GT3 list and even if some drop out pent up demand may stay strong for quite a while.

Given the uncertainty, and unless you don't actually want to buy a car for 2 or 3 years, if I were you I'd think about putting my name in now. Initial deposits are typically small ($1-5K at most dealers) and fully refundable so you really have nothing to lose. Once you have a slot established, you can always push it out if the timing isn't exactly right. Just my $.02.

I think most states if not all, deposits on new cars are fully refundable. It should be stated in your signed paperwork. Really no risk in ordering to at least get on the list.

I was shocked that in a big city like Houston one of the dealers has been promised 1 car next year - so he could not even put me on a list.
Another 4 cars in 2014....
I was lucky to get on the list as one person cancelled and I should have mine by May 2014.

FWIW - The dealer I am working with had a $2K refundable deposit for a place on the waiting list.
