Good news for builders like BGB to continue swapping out weak croc motors out with proper ones from 911 series.
I saw several such cars by now and it is a great way to build a good track car imho.

Do his comments imply that the R8 is better than the 911 because the former is mid-engined? It really isn't obvious to me because the Cayman, even with an equal engine, would not put the power down as well, although it should handle better.

What a contradiction he is selling. On one hand "you can never remain stuck in the past" so we need to get over the emotional loss of the manual transmission, On the other "the (mid engined) Cayman is ... conceptually better then the 911" but we need to keep paying more for an inferior/slower rear engine design.
