I dont think there was any official test for the 458 vs Gt3. If it make you feel better, the 458 didn't even make the conversation. 458 is still a great car, but I rather see the magazines pin GT3 against the F12 and such.
So glad I ordered this car. Every new review adds another smile on my face.

GT3 against F12? why? a car with a heavy engine up front against the race-inspired GT3? next time try am M5 F10 against the GT3 and rejoice if the GT3 wins the test.

458 would have been a better comparo IMO.

But based on the fast company of that group, Porsche once again punches above its weight class.

Yes..thats clear. But if you look at all GT3 versions..they were always in their class not the most powerful..but could hold up well with more powerful cars. In fact thats nothing new..think back to the 50/60s..550 spyder, 904 etc..

Even a plain annd simple 997.2 GT3 with old fashioned gearbox, just 435HP can do a lot of harm to many 500HP cars

The way I read it, the review only covers cars new for 2013. Everyone holster their weapon. Like I tell my kids "I can hear you when you use your whiny voice." New Porsche got a solid if not rave review, what's there to be upset about?

Surely, agreed. Formula hasn't changed in that respect.

It was an interesting article b/c the GT3 was almost the undisputed heavyweight champ, YET the article points out a few things not as good as the old car (steering, engine note). To balance those statements, it would have been good for the editors to better articulate why the car was so compelling compared to the old car. My take is that it's (i) the upper RPM engine note, engine response, and rev happy nature that is superior to the old GT3 and (ii) much improved handling, in terms of precision, grip, and predictability, based on this article and other that came before it.

Agreed.

Now that said, if cost wasn't a consideration, I'd take a 458 over the 991 GT3 ... because life is short and it's a Ferrari. And I'd track the thing too (Ferraris and Lambos are uncommon at DEs, but I've seen some out there).

Thumbs up! I need to look into this as well (or sell some cars ). Wish my garage had another 2 feet of clearance. The $3k lifts are pretty sweet.

I have to admit the wait is driving me nuts and I have thought about just getting a 997 GT3, I find one of these articles and make me stay on the waiting list.

'car' phones up companies..

"hi, we are doing a big comparo, what have you got in your fleet at the moment that we could use?"

"yes, we have @#$%, use that'

"ok, thanks"

also, having such a mixed bag of cars makes for more people who are interested in the other, wild-card entries, buy the magazine. more sales. more youtube hits.

interesting to note that despite the gt3 having some of it's visceral feel neutered compared to the 997 gt3... that it's still the car which offers the most pure driving enjoyment of all the ones listed. Makes me wonder how amazing the 997 gt3 was then?
