Got dealer "heads up" on RS ...

Not good, not good at all. An OTD $200K track 991 is a bitter pill to swallow. You could buy a 991 GT3 and throw in a new Boxster at that price. There better be a HUGE effing performance jump or Porsche is just raping for the privilege of those two letters.

That's where I think Porsche is making a mistake,by trying to go after Ferrari and McLaren's market. Those cars cost about 250K and up,depending on options, the new GT3 can set you back about 150K,the new RS is predicted to cost around 170K,slowly slowly Porsche is getting there... And I predict(speaking of predictions, where is Macca ) that Porsche won't be successful with this strategy, because the other 2 have that market covered pretty well and in terms of looks and exclusivity those win,the GT3 being nothing more than a 911 with a big wing. Please note I'm only mentioning looks and exclusivity, not performance. So,if they continue down this road, they better be prepared to forget 911's history and acknowledge the engine behind the rear axle has reached the end of performance extraction, that there isn't much more that can be achieved using a 3.8 or even 4.0 flat 6 NA etc,no matter how many gimmicks like RWS they come up with...
It looks like I was off by 10K...

Something is needed to justify that price bump, as others have pointed out.
I wonder what it will weigh? Pretty easy to blow 50k on carbon...

Between the RS and TTS? Probably the RS so your point is well taken. But I wouldn't pay $50K more than a GT3 for either one, so they've lost me with that pricing regardless.....

If I had to guess, I'd say it includes PCCB, aero, lots of carbon, maybe a different flywheel, sport buckets...
PCCB is about $10K, buckets assume $6K (?), aero and carbon bits can easily "cost" $15K (?), then the balance to the engine / drivetrain changes and the privilege of having the RS?

They will sell every one at $200k...don't kid yourself.
$200k is the new $100k when it comes to sports cars.
With that said...the real competition is from the used alternatives: MP4 attracts the same type of buyer. 2009-2010 458s maybe in that range soon, R8 (with the 10) and there is the new Gallardo replacement.
One thing for sure...we are all lucky bastards to be car nerds at this time in automotive history. When I was a kid if you wanted a real sports car you had 3 choices: 911, Ferrari 308 and (maybe) a Vette.
I seriously doubt the trend of $200-250k sports cars has much of a shelf life remaining. The main buyers are the youngest baby boomers. My Generation X is too small...so as the Boomers age so goes this market segment.

Will be interesting to see what is included for the big jump in MSRP from the 997. Personally my 997.2 RS is not losing its' lustre looking at these prices. Yes these cars may kick my *** at the track, but so be it. I'll keep the driver involvement of the 997, even if AP says that PDK is more involving
I would cross shop a pre owned Mac and a 430 Scud at those prices. And since no MT on the 991 RS, they are the competition.

PCCB $9,210
Axle Lift $3,490
Race Buckets $6,500
LED $3,110
$22,310 worth of included stuff.....So that leaves another $28,000 for carbon, performance and suspension changes....and exclusivity of course...

too soon to say what next RS will be. I cant see the dealer knowing this early with 991GT3 not even on showroom floors to date.
Expect the 991RS to be an easy build for Porsche. All parts bin stuff.
Carbon Seats. Check.
Dog Tounge Door pulls. Check.
Turbo S widebody. Check.
3.8L bumped to 500HP. Check
Racing graphics. Check
Larger rear wing. Check
cant see much else other then a different wheel design but that would be pushing it for porsche.
Still, i look forward to seeing it and would love to try it.

Difference is that the 4.0RS was exclusive and limited in numbers thus selling for $300k now... the new RS will be on the slippery slope to $100k in no time...
