Default Front Axle Lifter

Hi everyone,

Is really GT3 much lower than a standard 991, that you will need the Front Axle Lift, if you're going to use it as everyday car?

Thanks.

Yes! For a daily drive its a must for usability and ease of access unless you live somewhere super flat! The 997.2 had ground clearance of about 85mm and max approach angles of about 6.5 degrees... The standard cars enjoy approach angles in the double digits...

The 991 cars will likely be similar...

Nobody really knows. From the photos I've seen, it looks like the front end clearance is better than the prior GT3's. Every reviewer says it will be a better street car. Mine will be ordered without.

Every reviewer does say that, but I think they're referring mainly to driving dynamics, not ground clearance issues. Most reviewers I've seen and heard, from CH to Pete Stout, have recommended axle lift strongly.

Not trying to talk anyone out of their decision, just sayin'.....

Pete recommended it unequivocally, the must have option on the configurator.

Coming from both prior GT3s, I completely agree. My only must have option.

I'll also add, it's not so much the ground clearance, but the combination of ground clearance and extended front overhang. I've had BMW's with less ground clearance but virtually no scraping due to short front overhang.

I also strongly doubt the front lip is any higher than the prior GT3s despite the photos floating around the web.

The front axle lift is so necessary on a GT3 that I feel it should be standard equipment.

You will scrap the front end whether you have the lifter or not. The rubber under piece is about $250 to replace. So you can pay about $3500 for the lifter and still end up replacing the front rubber under carriage for an additional $250.

I opted not to get the lifter.

It's not the money. Depending on where you live, you will be changing a hanging chewed up lip every month. That's just not practical.

Says the guy who has never owned a GT3.

sullivan, I'm with ya. I'm Austin as well and while not San Fran, there are enough sharp transition places where live with a 997 or 996 GT3 is a PITA.

I have the lift and use it often for street and especially for loading onto the trailer, if you lower the car and use a cup lip I think you would have a hard time loading it on a trailer without several ramps. Currently I only need a 3ft 2x4 in front of the standard trailex ramp and avoid the space and expense of race ramps
Here is a decent view of the overhang

Of course, there is another simple solution - just remove the front air dam for street use! Costs nothing, will not affect street handling one bit. I'm surprised it's not in the owners manual.

Oh and that would look fantastic.
