Hmmm. Neither my 996 or 997 had engine undertrays so that tray I saw on the 991 GT3 is a significant addition. You have a 991 Carrera S, right? That must be different.

Porsche claims that the rising angled piece that encloses the underside of the engine on the GT3 creates additional downforce at the rear and refers to it as a diffuser. Semantics perhaps, but downforce is downforce.

Objection, argumentative.

: )

I said "underside" and, separately, "diffuser," and "engine tray," which is not to say that any given car had any two or all three. : ) Anyway, the diffuser looks like little more than a nifty engine tray. Check out the rump 458 "Speciale with hot peppers" ... that is a diffuser ...

... this thing under the GT3, well, that's an entry drip tray ... : ) ...

I think they're diss'ing the turbo. They show it in fugly yellow, as if to highlight its ungainly, piggish proportions and they start with a damning quesion: "What is it?"

What is it?
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the fastest-accelerating car that Porsche has ever placed into open-ended series production.
And they're right! What the hell is the significance or even the simple meaning of "open-ended series production"? What the?! So it's a "fastest-accelerating" ... does that mean from a drag standstill or rolling foot or some other arbitrary measure? Who cars? Dual clutch and AWD means it will be quick compared to "better" cars that simply can't put down more horses through two wheels and don't have electronics (eg. GT2 RS launch control is primitive power-limiting traction management.)
Didn't Porsche tout the 991S as "faster" than the 997.2 turbo PDK?
These are de minimis.
Ugh. Same old, well worn trail.
Forget it. The turbo S is for new buyers in the Porsche marque, not seasoned performance oriented types. It's for guys that want the "new" cachet and the overt display of wealth. They'd rather pay $200K for a new one than "risk" the financial catastrophe of buying a $100K old one that might need a $3K clutch or a $5K turbo ... forget it. These cars are $200K for the same benefits of the $80K base model, but 2 seconds quicker here or there on the freeway if you really floor it and risk life and limb.

Porsche needs to put a 4.5 litre flat 8, flat crank 9000 rpm 600hp engine in the 911 and sell it for about $200K and it will be the first giant killer they've produced in a half century. Race it. Race a flat 8 911 at Le Mans and 24hr Nurburgring. Sell it with cupholders and navigation to espresso coffee shops, pay the bills, satisfy the stock holders. Then make it lighter and lighter, then sell a strip down version for $150K and I'll take one in white with a solid knee bar from pillar to pillar, no electronics, no nuttin. Even if it's PDK. Please.

Ok, counselor. Now we have all of our terminology defined and verbiage clarified. Understood. Objection sustained.

+1
And put the engine in the middle (Cayman/Boxster, not 911).

One can dream.

Too expensive to track. My 6GT3 does the job better and cheaper. My Boxster is perfect on a twisty country road with the top down. No need for 500hp there.
