RS 3.8 or 4.0 - your opinion
I found this article, appreciate info contained we have seen before but a couple of stand out sentences:
http://www.nitrobahn.com/news/2015-p...3-rs-detailed/
"The Porsche RS tradition heads back to the legendary Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973 and it has served many track enthusiasts well".
"Engine wise, it is still not clear as to what route the engineers will be using but as per rumors, an enhanced version of the 911 GT3’s 475-horsepower 3.8-liter flat-six is one possibility. A production version of the 4.0-liter engine which featured in Porsche’s latest 911 RSR endurance race cars, that was a class winner at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans is another possibility".
There has been much debate here on the validity of the new GT3 with the engine not being "race proven", so with the possibility of the 4.0 engine, does this change our views? Having a 991 RS with the engine based on the 24 hr Le Mans would make me very happy.
Or would you still prefer the new engine?

There may be a 4.0 version of the new motor but there won't be a RSR mezger going into the new RS... They would have crap on their faces if they mated PDK to the mezger after spending years bull****ting about how it can't be done...

There are some rumours on the german forums that Porsche apparently decided on Monday to offer the GT3RS only in Manual..
But thats pure bs is you ask me...what a decsion chaos by Porsche..first offer the 991 GT3 only in PdK..the get some critics and the offer a manual - but then only a manual in the RS..why so complicated..offer both in both versions and case closed.
I hope there wont be a manual anymore..it will keep prices stable for the last 997 GT3 versions..if a 991 GT3 RS comes with hydraulic steering, a race proven engine..and is very close to a track car/CUP car...I could envisage it one day...but thats still far away.

All valid comments above.
AP said that with the new GT3 being more able to adapt to both road comfort and track (dare I say compromised), that it leaves room for the RS to be more extreme. It will be interesting to see what he means by extreme..... closer version to the race variant..... a 4.0 litre..... manual..... aggressive shape..... light weight..... now there's a thing or two.

The only Le Mans winning engine that would be appropriate for a real Porsche GT road car - not like the GT3 poseur-mobile - would be based on the 1998 GT1... Err wait a second.

No, it was pure luck - nothing else. The Aston Martin deserved the victory more..was t he fastest car. The 991 RSR ist not the fastest off all the ones out there..but fact is also Porsche had last season a lot of bad luck with the 997 GT3RSR..so this year they had some luck.

so much drama queening going on.
the new lump is here to stay.
i only wish pag showed the confidence in the pdk box to use it in at least the cup cars like ferrari does with their challenge cars.

they *might* have a 4.0 variant tucked away, but its more likely to be a 3.8 with the same or an extra 15-20 extracted from it ... IMHO
