Default Why not optional 21" wheels?

Porsche offers multiple design wheels for the 991 cars, except the GT3.

Why can Porsche/VW not offer optional 21" wheels, forged wheels, different shapes? Most of the GT3 buyers end up spending $$$$$ on aftermarket wheels, when VW Group could manufacture a quality wheel while standing behind the Center-Locks warranty.

Buying aftermarket CL wheels is a risky business, and in case of failure, these wheels void the factory VW warranty.

^ That. Important to keep the cars & coffee crowd happy coz they bring the moolah. Trackrats like us are too damn broke buying tires and pads to shizzle real bling.

And while Porsche's at it, a long wheel base (LWB) version so PRC buyers can sit in the back and be driven around by their chauffeurs. Sadly the LWB GT3 won't have the clubsport option as that interferes with the owner's enjoyment in the back.

p.s. grammar ain't exactly my forte so excuse the non-pun above...

We could put the 'DUB' sticker right next to the 'PDK' sticker on the exterior

Aftermarket forged CL wheels are cheaper and lighter than Porsche wheels. If an OZ Racing Superforgiatta failed, why would Porsche want to warranty anything that failed with it? Also, I've not seen a single OZ wheel fail. I don't think I've seen an HRE wheel fail in many years. Other makers, I'm not so sure.

The OZ wheels are amazing, but when I was getting new rubber installed at the track they did a laser balancing test and the operator commented that the rims were warped. Apparently that is common with heavy track use. So while they may not fail, if you get ultra lightweight rims they can warp. I haven't noticed any effect from it though...

sounds to me like Dr. P is trying to dis-incentivize track use of their track car.

if you get the ideal shoes for track use, you're that much closer to the track use that will quickly show the weakest links in the car. Things that regular street use of the 'track car' would never uncover. And if the masses who buy the bulk of the GT3 upgrade to aftermarket wheels, more likely then not it will be strictly for street use.

in other words, tailoring wheels to fit a specific use just leads to profit margin-reducing factory fixes to the rest of the car just to pacify a tiny tiny portion of the typical buying pool.

I think Dr. P just wants you place an order for a Cup Car and leave their money tree alone. Granted, the other money trees bear much more profit margin fruit.

NJ-GT...you think Porsche needs to add some better lighting options too...LED's in the wheel well's and in the front grille would be dope.
