Auto-box take up rate
Slightly OT, but since we're debating transmissions, buyers and sports cars...
Interesting numbers on the take up rate of DCT versus manual transmissions on the E9X M3. Not so much the ratio, but how much it changed over the production life of the car, and the US versus RoW.
Keep in mind DCT wasn't available for a first few months on E90s. Also, early buyers may have remembered what SMG was like. Early buyers also likely to be enthusiasts.
LCI (mid cycle update) car had huge gap in take up ratio, 10:1 or more for RoW.
M3 GTS, BMW's "RS", was DCT only.

I have a DCT M3, after having every M3 (all the way back to the E30 M3) in manual form I would not go back to a manual. The SMG was crap, but DCT is awesome.

And in other news, the Prius is the top selling car in CA....and Austin....

I bought a DCT M3 E92 and the feature I disliked the most was the DCT. I think it is a great DD. Next one I get (I want another one, but need more garage space) will be a manual transmission, much more fun and lighter too.

SMG wasn't that bad. If you modulated the throttle right you could get it to shift smoothly. I never had trouble with mine but I only drove it for 50000 miles before selling it.

I passed on my 991 GT3 slot for an RS hoping the rumors of a manual option might be true. But seeing the test car and stats like is, even from another manf. is pretty convincing that it makes no sense for Porsche financially. PDK/DCT has matured is accepted as the top performing option. Interesting to see that the US is perhaps the strongest bastion of old skoolers.

Well, that's a rather inane and pointless comment, isn't it? "I will never buy another BMW", would at least illustrate you choose from experience.
I've loved my ///M cars, they're just too damn heavy.
The latest DCT in the F10 M5 is lightning fast. Much much faster than the E9x DCT. Better than the 991S PDK IMO. I expect that the PDK-S will be better still. If it's not, I likely won't be writing the check for the GT3. And of course, I'd prefer to have the right to choose a manual instead.

The RS isnt going to have a manual either. Hope is always good no matter how slim. Porsche also saves money by having only one transmission type. Just not going to happen

I wonder what the Cup car will end up getting, though since it's not the same motor in the future as the GT3 it may not bear any fruit for us.
