I have not experienced alcantara but I have seen it on the steering wheel. I agree it has a different special look. However, if you are paying $150,000 for a car it and its interior should look expensive. Alcantara did not project that look for me. If I had my way, I would purge the entire interior of alcantara. Maybe that is why we all are coveting the sport bucket seats.

Was riding in a convertible 991 Carrera S this weekend.despite having something like $20k in options, The doors were hard plasticky vinyl. It struck me that driving a $130k gt3.. With those doors.. Would feel quite disappointing. I think whether you have leather or lcantara.. And as absurd as the pricing is.. That you really need to have leather on doors, dash, and a few touch points... Maybe on an RS it would be different with a roll cage in it etc..

That's why, IMHO, the $3320 "full leather" option is a must-have no-brainer....

I agree with you and for an additional 1.3% of MSRP, the additional leather dash makes a huge difference, especially with red stitching. Looks stunning on the configurator in 3D.

on all my GT cars, they were all leather except a 3.8 and a 4.0RS, which had alcantara.
that 3.8 was used bought at 2800 miles and the RS4.0 i had like 10 min to finalize my order to spec, so i didn't have too much time to figure things out. if i had the time and enough coffee that day, i woudl have ordered leather. but i do understand the attaction of alcantara. i pulled the oem alcantara off, and put momo suede on. it's $250 per wheel, if it mats out, i'll just get another. but then you lose air bag which can be a big deal for many.

but if you are not stuck on the idea of alcantara, i recommend leather for those who actually drive the car and put miles on.

go see a few used cars. beside str wheel, look at the arm rest on the doors if they are alcantara, you will see how the wear. some ppl are ok with that pattern, some ppl are too **** for it.

and yes, do get leather dash and door.

Is the driving experience (bare hands) better/worse? I like the look of the alcantara, but seems like it might be more slippery.

Just the opposite, Alcantara is synthetic suede and is intended to be non-slip.

But isn't alcantara on the steering wheel designed to be driven with gloves?

Actually alcantera gives you the grippy feel of gloves without having to wear them. But it's not long lasting based on what folks are saying. It's not really convenient/practical to wear gloves in normal driving, IMO

I voted leather and my RS is so equipped. Alcantara is very nice but does not wear well on the steering wheel in my experience.

For best wear you should wood steering wheels.
Alcantara feels nice and offers the best grip in my clammy hands. I like my steering wheel and shifter ragged looking anyway.
