Mezger Dominates Le Mans GTE Pro Class
Mezger-powered 911s take P1 and P2 in GTE Pro.
Congrats to Lieb, Lietz, Dumas and Bergmeister, Pilet, Bernhard.
P1 and P4 in GTE Am to boot.

Yes, fine way for the Mezger to go out in style.

Mezger bottom-end > 9A1
9A1 top-end > Mezger.
The Mezger is still more reliable than the 9A1 and that's what it takes to win Le Mans.
Porsche is working on the (cheaper) new motor. When ready it will be good, no doubt, but not the legendary Mezger of course

Interesting. Do you have any emprical data to support your reliability claim ?

They're racing the Mezger because no production cars exist yet with the new DFI motorsport engine. Once it has been homologated it will replace the old motor. There's no big mystery here.....

Mezger had a great time on its original proving ground. Proud to own one.
As to the new DFI....
DFI caymans killed it in Daytona. Not sure why people think they will not be as good as the leaky Mezger?

in the chris harris video, around the 9:10, he says something like "how are they gonna make it reliable to 9000 rpm over 100k mile? I dunno know but theyre Porsche so Im sure they will."

Not exactly. They have a year after racing it to produce a street going model with the same motor for homologation. They are well within their window to race the new motor if they wanted to. You would think they would want some live action from it. Cup cars or something at least already.

Oh and lets fix this title. The mezger didnt dominate anything. The 991 rsr did very well. There was a mezger in the gte am car driven by patrick long and their fastest lap was over 2 seconds slower. Pat long in the car validates the equality of the drivers.
And even still, the new bmw (aston martin) and their bucket full of rules waivers were still significantly quicker. They just had an aweful day. But the 991's proved their merit among cars that actually play by the rules.
It does show that the Mezger can still be competitive in the right platform. And hp levels are going to exceed what the mezger can effectively do. However as mentioned. The mezger is going away because its not competitive for the street car any more. Too expensive and maxed out.

this is true as the vipers were not great, the vettes were older and the Astons had a bad day in an otherwise faster car.
I do not know the story on the Ferraris.
No win in Le Mans is easy, but the Porsches had more so in their favor this time around that is for certain.
Interesting to see that the 991 body is 2 seconds faster then the 997.2 body.
