Default Chris Harris drives the 991 GT3

I've been on the skeptical side for a while, I hope Chris Harris gets some commission from Porsche from the folks he's probably going to convert with this review. The noise is epic, wait until the entire video is over

Thanks..

The "engine is based on the Carrera engine"...that one surprised me a bit.

Otherwise, good review, but 2 years ago hew was praising the 4.0L as the CAR..now its front axle etc are not good...why didnt he say that 2 years ago?

Time will tell..

Wow - way ahead of schedule. I'm relieved he loves the engine & steering so much! Not surprised he misses the manual. I likely will too, but this thing is looking incredible.

Interesting point of view. I had a blind spot as to the possibility that the PDK presents a broader market of potential GT3 customers that can more than compensate for the purists who are opposed to anything other than a manual. Never considered that. Of course, if a manual were merely an option, they could have had both as potential customers. Also, my understanding is that fixed back buckets are not available in the U.S. as an option, so he must be referring to a European version of the 991 GT3. And it looks like there are 2 different types of seats in the car (old sport bucket and a prototype seat?). Great video, though. Thanks for posting.

Love his review, wish he spoke a bit more about the PDK like the character of shifts etc. It did not sound like the shifts have much feedback, only a test drive would be tell. Cant wait..

Chris seemed a bit apologetic that he still prefers a manual. I'm sure you have to play by the rules (spoken or unspoken) to get the early test drives.

I have always felt that Paddles are more fun on mountain roads where braking, shifting and turning points are less rehearsed and more random and inconsistent. Unless that is the extent of your driving aggression, it's just not as rewarding as doing it where you have done it many times and it comes without thought

The car does sound fantastic. Sorting through the noise though, one would have to ascertain what 40 hp, stickier tires with more contact patch, better/lighter/more balanced chassis, more df, wider front track, wider rear stance, more revs (equaling less shifts), updated suspension and better balance and CG would add to a 997.2 GT3. Maybe not 15 seconds on a nurburgring lap. But sure enough a lot of time (I would guess the tires alone are worth 3-5 seconds).

Unfortunately we will never know.

Oh, and I guess 7:25 is the official nurburgring time?

Go figure, they made a way for the Turbo (and Turbo S) to be slower. Again.

This will make all those with orders very happy, and those of us who insist on a stick very sad.

Finally!

I can stop holding my breath! No doubt someone will chime in here with some BS comments on reliability, seats, CL wheels, not a real GT3 etc.

I knew this review was coming. Chris actually preferred the car for spirited driving with the PDK. The same applies for track work. These are the two areas I will use the car most, I can live without the manual in between.

I understand from my european contacts that the factory have now settled the production planning schedules for the entire run of GT3 before the RS emerges late next year. The word on the street is that by the time the world press get to attend the launch in 6 weeks time the order books for all production will be over subscribed by 100%!
