991GT3 Track Wheel Options?

can a set of 18" 997.2 GT3 track wheels fit over the the brakes of the 991GT3?

Would we need the NB offset or the RS offset for the new 991 widebody? Or something totally different?

Im trying to see if one can salvage 997.2 track wheels :)

I think one of the Grand-Am teams (BGB I think) had posted that it's not the brakes that are the issue but something with the control arms that won't allow 18's to fit.

This is my understanding... Suspension is the limiting factor...

Note that the 991 Cup uses a lot of parts from the 997.2 Cup...including the engine, transaxle and brakes. Not a good comparison as the current cup has deviated a lot more from the street cars than previous generations.

The key question to ask right now is if you are getting ceramic brakes? If so, absolutely not due to the ceramic brakes being over an inch larger in diameter. With the steel brakes, you are most likely going to need to test fit. The new front calipers appear to extend further out and may proclude using 18" wheels.

newbie question alert...!

why do people put smaller wheels when they take their cars to the track? Is it to have more give/feel through a higher sidewall? or because smaller wheels usually weight less all things being equal?

Cheaper tires, better size/brand/model selection for the most part. Weight can be a factor sometimes as well.

Now that 991 GT3s are being delivered, is anyone investigating a 19" wheel for track use?

cheaper rubber. you will soon find out the car is the cheapest part of the whole hobby. i'll pay your gt3 pmt if you pay my tire bills.

more choices in 18" rubber

lighter over all wt of tire + wheel

18" sounds better than 20"
