Default 991 gearboxes

Is there a difference between the 991 gt3 gearbox and the 991 turbo s gearbox. I know there are different types of the pdk and was wondering if they are using the same in both. Thanks

Different.

Only the GT3 gets the PDK-S.
All the rest get regular PDK.

Internals are lighter, gear ratios are closer spaced, faster shift times, no auto transmission type "crawl" in neutral, no "kickdown" or auto functions of any kind in manual mode, ability to engage neutral at any time with the paddles.

Do PDK-S has the central lever working "as any sequential race car", i.e.: you pull to shift up ?

Btw, thanks opening that topic, i.e.: very good question.

Still, with all the answers given, I would like to come back to the original question and ask more accurately :
Is PDK-S, (beside the ratios and some lighter components), the same physical PDK gearbox, as most the changes explained above could be very well ..Only software changes ???

..Because, if "Yes", we may expect to have software upgrade and kind kind of possible conversion in "regular" PDK !!

Thanks for perfect answer Frayed.
This is (logical) and good.
(I hope that this change is going in ALL of them.)

Btw, nice to see the lever in Acantara, on Panamera, when you order Tineo wood (dash and wheel), ..you still get a plastic (cheap) shifter !!!
"They" are making progresses in many sides ! (logical and aesthetics).

There is definitely a difference between the GT3's PDK case and the standard PDK case because of PTV+ and the variable adjustment LSD. Now the turbos also have PTV+, as do the Carrera S models, so I suspect that there are some cars out there that are using the same casting/housing as the PDK-S gearbox.

But when you get into the standard models, that's a different casting, and there are in fact two different castings within standard PDKs, one for LSD (PTV) and one for open differential.

The fact that it isnt on the 991 turbo, means it will not go on the other cars.

I believe that the reversal of the actuation of the shift lever, the 'hooligan mode' (N when you pull back on the paddles), upgraded internals, faster shifting, updated software tuning, no forced upshifts, 'no crawl' feature (not sure what that is) were created by AP's team based on the ordinary PDK box to make if feel more sequential-like and less PDK-like.

I think the better question is which, if any, of the features will be incorporated into the non GT cars in the future.

Based one what can be gleaned from interviews and videos, I think the shifting in the GT3 is considered by PAG too hard/fast/unrefined for Carrera customers.

To simulate a normal automatic, which as you know lets the car "crawl" when you're off the brake even without applying throttle, Porsche allowed a bit of slip in the PDK clutch. In PDK-S, this has been eliminated, I assume because it's not as "sporty" and manuals don't do it when in neutral. Or maybe it has something to do with heat build up or other issue with the specific performance of the clutches in a PDK-S gearbox.
