Spent a few hours at the dealer this afternoon
Here's what I learned
- no US allocations yet, but based on projections he already has a full list.
- This rig has generated a lot of interest despite no third party testing yet. New customers are coming in who have never owned a Porsche, requesting a spot on the list
-drove the Cayman S today. It was a freaking blast. It is light years ahead of the old Cayman, and my pick over the 991S. If I couldn't get a GT3, or had to wait for a year or two for a slot to open, I'd lease one for a couple years.

The dealer close to where I live only has one person on their list so far.
I've never owned a porsche and currently looking for my first one. Never been to C&C and drove stick all my life. I track my 2009 ZX6R several times a year... but sounds like I don't deserve to own a GT3 according to this crowd =)

Naw.
many have come from bmws or 'down' from italian cars. I think interweb forums bring out the worst in people to be honest. If you can get one, do it.
I fly our to Portland in a few weeks. Looking forward to my first trip to your neck of the woods after a bunch of travel in asia.

I took a driving school up at Portland International. Fun track and a great opportunity to learn about driving in the rain.
Welcome to Porsche!

coincidence, i was at dealer picking up my RS.
saw the first cay and cay s they got. drove it.
i like it way more than 991.
i might even like it more than 991RS.
yes, the 991 is bringing new customers to porsche. but this new drove of buyers are appliance buyers, not car nuts...... the selfish side of me is really having problem digesting that.

mooty, so you thinking you will pass on the 991 RS when it comes out. . . and perhaps tempted by the new Coxster?
Later on in the product cycle when the Coxster R comes out it should be spectacular. The Cayman S was a bit soft. Once that car takes a set in a corner you can play with it. Reminded me of the tractability of my E36.

frayed- test drove the Cayman S last Friday....underscore your sentiments...is a blast to drive...very immersive experience..
Am contemplating whether to lift the dealer Cayman S demo...for the 9 month wait until the 991 GT3 turns up...

The reason why there is more interest in the GT3 is its improvement in DD. Porsche has taken a raw track machine and made it a good DD while retaining its track capabilities. What's not to like?

People are raving about the styling but to be honest I think the Boxster looks better. The rear haunches are a bit too curvy/rounded, while the Boxster seems to have flatter haunches and somehow has a bit more presence.
Someone else posted on here Chris Harris' review. Interesting that perhaps the best auto journalist out there, and prior RS4.0 owner and current 599 owner fell hard for the Coxster.
