Back on Topic thread - Who's ordered

They should move the 991 GT3 section over to the regular 991 section. The discussions in this thread and others just seem more appropriate in a non-racing type of section. The 996 and 997 GT3/RS sections are so different.
The GT3 is now one of those cars and coffee cars. If they made a convertible, I'd buy it as my DD!

Soon enough there will be the 994 GT3 that analyzes the apex and brakes/turns/unwinds/accelerates like Patrick Long while you sit in the 20-way adjustable passenger seat texting your buddies with the seat-ventilators on. "Hey, it did the Nurburgring five seconds faster than the 991!"
The Luddite in me is just happy that the 997.2 RS will soon be worth so little that I can afford one.

I hope the positioning of the 991 GT3 into more mass market appeal means they move the RS further into a pure track category.

I sort of agree with you, kyrocks. I'm sure as people actually get their new GT3s and track them, there will be more discussions of lap times and track mods. Right now there's not much to talk about except whether to get one's flappy paddles color-matched to the exterior or covered in French-stitched alcantara.

I have to agree with this 100%. If that were one's primary interest, why waste money on the hard-to-clean alcantara of a 997.2 RS? You sound as though you speak from some experience.

You guys are hilarious. The new GT3 will be fast no doubt. It will be a luxurious product. I am all for new and better...hell I just got a 991S cab. Now back to topic....I agree that the alcantara steering wheel holds up well both at the track and at cars and coffee.

Just to confirm. Alcantara holds up well or it doesn't hold up well? I have never owned a car with Alcantara steering wheels but I do like the feel. But if it is difficult to clean and is not durable then leather makes more sense.

I've not done 1/10th the miles as Mootster, but in the couple of GT3's where I've had Alcantara, it held up fine on the steering wheel, seat cushions, arm rest, etc. I think somewhere around the 50K mile mark, it might start to wear in a bit ... you'd have to ask old iron pants about that ...

I'm not expecting any shortage of supply with the 991 GT3 -- it's built on the same production line, not as a separate process in a separate location, so it can be pumped out like a Carrera with no limit other than arbitrarily imposed by marketing types trying to perhaps control supply and demand. Porsche has never done this in the past, so I doubt VW will impose any new rules.
