Autocar - 991 Turbo Spyshots - 6 Speed Manual Option
#17
Autocar understands that the new 911 Turbo will match the output of the most recent 911 Turbo S, with 530bhp and up to 530lb ft of torque. Those reserves will be channelled through a standard six-speed manual or optional

Guys, the turbo isn't a motorsport department designed/built car like the GT cars... Porsche will just say that they had the resources to throw at it that APs motorsport dudes didn't...
If true, a ridiculous idea in any case to offer it in the turbo and not the GTs, thats for sure...

I guess manual is standard so that they can charge extra for PDK, one way to make more money that way. Not many people will go for manual and Porsche is very much aware of that!
As for the weight, I guess it is easier to reduce the weight of an elephant than gazalle....

I read the article and had to laugh. It looks like its cobbled together form a number of sources many of them well out of date. Its like the 991 GT3 article I was reading in February Porsche 911 World magazine yesterday which stated that the new 991 GT3 would likely have the Mezger engine. Granted it was probably written in January but hey, 8 weeks later and the truth is very different!
There are a number of areas that article doesn't ring true. Same power as 997 Turbo S with same 0-100 time (and effectively same time as 991 GT3)? 6 speed manual (this I think is wrong), only twin turbo instead of rumored tri turbo (wheres teh technology leap?)etc etc. Time will tell. Interesting those virtually undisguised pictures of the new 991 Turbo look close to production but we only saw a 991 GT3 getting that "naked" literally a few weeks before the unveiling and yet the Turbo is due to be exposed till September! Something wrong all round here...
