18" Wheels for 991 GT3?
#18
I have a 991 GT3 coming, and will want a set of smaller track wheels immediately (18’s would be great but I think 19’s are more realistic). Since the CL system has been redesigned for the 991, does anyone know if current CL wheels (from OZ, BBS, etc) that fit 997’s will fit the 991?

You have two options:
1. RacingBrake 6pot Calipers which bolt on with no adapter and are lower profile.
2. 997.2 GT3 OEM Calipers also bolt on with no adapter.
Both are lower profile with no bridge so allow Pad changes without removeing the caliper.
I went with the Racing Brake setup as the pistons are much larger, but they use a Ford GT500 Bremo Pad and pad options are somewhere limited. I didn't like the Pad they came with so I am going to try Porterfield RS4 next.
I run OZ Challenge wheels which where off the shelf from Tire rack for a 997.2 GT3 but no longer in Production.
The Racing Brake Calipers did still rub the wheel barrel a bit on the OZ wheels so we had the grind down the corners but it's not structural and not noticeable when the wheels are on. I tried an old Forgeline 18" wheel I had and they did not rub at all.

Just going to walk softly and ignore the pics above of the girl and pyrenees with some car in the background and say that 18s are definitely possible...if you put some Cup car uprights, hubs, and brakes on the car. I don't know the specifics of exactly all parts that were needed for the conversion, but next track day I can ask the owner. I'm curious myself.

The girl is my wife, who races in SCCA autocross and has more Ladies Class Trophies than I do in open class, unfortunately.

Just to clarify, I am running 18" fronts only and 19" rear. There is no real reason to have to run 18" rear given that you can get 345 Hoosiers in 19" . To run 18", the you need the Cup Car upright. The control arms on the Cup car are all the same, except have spherical bearings like the RS, but the bracket for the lower Control arms is much shorter, so the LCA is about 20mm higher and allows 18" wheels to tuck inside it and not hit the bolt that we all hit even on some 19" wheels without trimming or reversing the bolt.
If you wanted to run 18" rears you would need the Cup car uprights:
9913311518H
9913311528H

XR1 is what professional racers used and we like this pad shape for its proper aspect ration (Length vs. Width)
