What not to like about 991 GT3....

While undoubtedly there are many great things to like about the new 991 GT3(chassis, 9k redline, etc)I thought I would put together a list of things we seem to be unhappy about in relation to our beloved older GT3's. Please feel free to comment or add to the list if I forgot something. Also my apologies if this offends anyone who has orderered or covets the new GT3. I actually think it looks good and I'm sure the PDK is cool in a lot of ways.

1. No manual tranny offered. This has to be no 1 on the list and has been covered in other threads to exhaustion.

2. Newly designed unproven for racing 9a1 engine currently has no connection to Porsche racing and for the first time is a take off of the production engine. Bye bye Mezger.

3. Electronic steering feel yet to be determined.

4. No sport bucket seats for a track car!?

5. Weighs more than we all expected

6. Center console?

DrJay 03-10-2013 08:24 PM

1) Is it a track car or not? If it is a track car, then the PDK is faster, who wants a slower track car?

2) The Mezger is how old? Time and technology move forward, if you don't like it I am sure you can get a 1963 911 someplace...

3) Yet to be determined, yet we bitch anyway...

4) And you can predict the future?

5) yes it does.

6) ?

20" wheels....tires will be expensive.

Nizer 03-10-2013 09:39 PM

1. Marketed as a track day car. Track use voids warranty. Make up your mind Porsche.

2. No manual offered.

3. Heavier than 997 GT3.

RWS

Faux centerlocks

The 3 behind the GT.

Had they named it just GT no one would have complained.

Semantics.. : )

1) FYI, being allegedly "faster" is not really the primary reason amateurs take street cars to the track. For racing? Maybe. For track day & DE? Nope. So your absolute statement is in fact false. What Porsche should have done is offered a manual option. PDK only is arrogant & stupid.

2) Who cares how old it is? The GM smallblock OHV V8 is even older...yet soldiers on delivering incrediible power, reliability, and FUEL ECONOMY. Fad chasers are just that. That said, I have no real complaint about the 9A1, as IMO it is also a fine motor.

4) Tells me the lawyers are running the show. This ruined BMW.

Well sure, but let's at least hear some complaints or POV's that haven't already been expressed, like, 500 times. Something original; hold my interest......

Mike, it took me 5 minutes with a '99 GT3 to give up on the 993RS. Yes that RS. And yes it was that good, probably the best car to ever leave a factory.

And I only post about it sporadically.

You haven't driven a 991GT3 (none of us has) and yet you have posted more pros about the car than anybody including Porsche's marketing team.

There's always a flip side.

Besides, let us act like forum kids now that we can.
Perhaps AP was right and this IS the best GT3 to date.. I'll let you know in about 12 months.. ;)
