Why not? It's an AMG, not a regular sedan.

Because you would need a support truck with new tires and brake pads

They also overheat. At the AMG driving academy it was a big problem. The transmissions would get too hot unless you put it in comfort mode. It was not even 90 degrees out, which is not that hot. None of the models were exempt - even the SLS AMG got too hot if driven moderately hard. Sad really.

AMG makes some nice cars, loads of torque, great V8 sound, but they are not track cars. Even though the Mercedes owner's manual gives tips for track use. (funny how a two-ton sedan is OK to use on the track according to the manufacturer, and a Porsche is not. . .)

The Black Series models are designed for track use - proper suspensions, brakes, and cooling.

Even if capable without overheating nor breaking, this would be a very expensive and unsatisfying experience, imo...

I might consider it on a part-time basis if they came with a manual gearbox...

Yes, the Black Series is neat. I have seen them in action on the Ring many times. The C63 BS still weights over 1.7 tonne which is a bit on the heavy side for track use.

Which is around 1.9 US tons and the original poster was talking about the E class which is sure to be well over 2 tons...

taking a car around for one lap of the Ring only lasts about 8 minutes- I have seen a few AMG cars grenade at the track after about 20 mins of lapping. doing 5 30 min runs in one day is definitely not what the AMG cars are all about...

I have a C63 AMG (and three Porsches), and drove a bunch of AMGs at their Driving Academy a couple years ago. Overheating of the trannies was indeed a problem, but I'm hoping they've remedied that with this new E63 S version. Maybe good track tires and pads would address those concerns. May not be as fun on track as a GT3, but maybe fun enough?

Not really proven, how many do you see on the track that are driven hard and often?

No chance.

No chance.
You may be right, but I continue to hope AMG will start producing truly trackworthy cars. Meanwhile, the next M3/4 is looking promising.

My '05 CL65 did great in the rain on Michelin PS2's considering.
As soon as it dried up the temp gauge went up in sync with the RPM and speed LOL.

Having said that, it is stupid fast on the road keeping up with the GTR's and Turbo's :-)
Still the best daily driver I have ever owned, I know most dont like the look but I always loved it. Still do.

I agree. My 2007 CL600 was a v12 Bi-Turbo and that thing had 510 hp and 612 pound-feet of torque! But it weighted 4650 pounds! Still, it could propel you to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds! And this was not even an AMG model! But it was the combination of ABC (Active Body Control), Distronics Plus (radar-guided adjustable cruise control) and four levels of seat message that made it the most comfortable touring car I have owned! Nobody understands or care about these cars at resale...values are really rock bottom! For my five year old example, black/cognac, 36K miles, perfect body and with extended MB guaranty, I couldn't sell if for anything over $50K! The original MSRP was $147K! But it gave me five years of pure cruising pleasure!

Saludos,
Eduardo

CL600 with AMG package are still not easy to find. That was a beauty Eduardo!
I' ve been looking at CL's again recently :-)

I think the new 07 and on were much better built, I had some trouble with it, but all under warranty..

They don't bring much over the identical looking base models that cost half the price..
My 05-06 got killed by the new model on top of that. Even with only 240 built and 190 coming to the states.

Bought mine super clean with 22K miles CPO for $130K off MSRP and drove it another 35K miles in 2.5 years before I sold it with a year of CPO left for not much less than I paid for it, but it was already the old model when I bought it...
