Over on Pistonheads there is a rumor that AP says the GT3 Guards Red is a new color? Any more info on this?

You are correct. Still, atlas isn't happening. Gorgeous color though.

From what I've heard (no confirmation!) will PTS for the GT3 become available from MY2015. (Production starting in june 2014).

I don't know what Porsche is doing, but one would expect that such a modern paint factory could do every paintjob available....
I asked for Meteor grey on my C4S and that still needed to be checked for feasibillity, while it is a standard color for the Cayenne, but that's painted in the Leipzig plant.

BTW: Atlasgrey is not feasible for the 991 and 981 models.
There are three colors not feasible: Atlasgrey metallic, Aquamarine blue metallic and Slate grey metallic. (List is from june 2013)

Do they decide the feasibility of PTS colors based on coverage over materials, frequency of request or just on the basis of what they believe to suit the car???

They check if a color is feasible in the quality they require. If not, than it's denied. Seems that they can't get the same quality for every paint. Must have something to do with the new paintfactory and the waterbased paint that is used now (since 10 years or so) I guess. If a color needs to be checked for feasibillity it takes up to 6 months and if approved, another 4-6 months before delivery.
In other words, if I wanted Meteor Grey metallic on my 991 (standard color on the Cayenne!!), my car probably would be delivered around august next year.... That is, if the color gets approved.

In some way I think it's unacceptable. Other manufacturers don't have those problems with paint. Porsche says they can't do matte or satin paint. BMW, MB and Ferrari for example can... Maybe they should have spent another 200M on the paintfactory....

Got it! Thanks Suzy!

U'd think that the undercoat technology would be such that once applied, they should be able to topcoat to anyone's requirements.... Shame it takes so long for approvals and the finished product...

It's a shame that we do not have more choice of colours. There are so many colours from other manufacturers that I would have preferred over the current choices.

I originally chose Sapphire Blue but after seeing it on the Turbo, I'm just not feeling it for the GT3. Have 2 1/2 months to pick another colour...

"It is a fashion crisis!" - Richard Hammond sarcastically said regarding the red wheels and stripes with yellow calipers on the 997.2 GT3 RS.
