No 6 speed in the GT3. Ugh.

No, a drivers car doesn't have to do any of those things. Just leaves it all up to the driver without filling in for human error. Once it does every thing for you is there any point to driving it? Really once it starts correcting your steering or entry angles it's game over. Might as well be playing a video game.
I have a different opinion. I don't think the GT3 market is driven by track enthusiasts like us. Look how many are advertised "never been on track." if the market is driven by the people who just want to have the latest car in their garage, then the market for all 997 GT3 s will drop.
At least I hope so...I can't afford one...yet.

The Porsche microsite seems quite clear about the target market for the GT3. My guess is that Porsche, having successfully marketed the model for some time now, really knows its new car customers very well. If you prefer the older model, be glad Porsche also respects its heritage.

I've tried the PDK in manual mode in the 991S. It's not as engaging as a proper manual, but using the shifter rather than the paddles does restore some of the feel of using a manual.

It's a sad day for Porsche, and for those who love them, when you can still get a stick in a Boxster/S, Cayman/S, Panamera, Cayenne and 991/991S...but not a 991 "GT3"!
A damn shame, and on the heels of the centerlock fiasco, it seems that they're really just VWs now - volume uber alles with accountants & lawyers calling the shots.
Therefore I plan to keep my beloved Luddite Edition '3 for good, switch to 5-lug, and if the Mezger gives out one day it'll go to Sharkwerks for an 8,800 RPM redline/500 HP 3.9.

GT3s are all about going to the track. On a track a PDK is faster.

How do you start with a body in white 13% lighter than 997 and end up with a final product 150lbs heavier than an RS 4.0?
Maybe they sort it with 991 RS...

Agreed - when a car drives itself that would not be a driver's car. That would be a chauffeur's car. I also agree that driver's aids that actively modify driver inputs are not cool... but a PDK doesn't modify a drivers' input, it eliminates the need for one. Its merely a device that correctly matches engine speed/output to the vehicle speed at the request of the driver's right foot rather than their brain, right/left hand, and left foot. Those free limbs (and brain) can now be used in more advanced ways: left-foot braking, fine-tuning track position or more relaxed ways: holding a latte (sorry i just had to).
Off the track. I just enjoy shifting. For my kids, I made them drive manual transmissions as I think it requires them to pay attention to what they are doing (driving).
Nevertheless, this new GT3 with PDK is the wave of the future ... still makes me a little sad though

That's not entirely Porsche's fault and it's no marketing gimmick. You can thank your fellow Porsche track junkies who have less integrity than you who overrev and/or otherwise operate the car beyond its design parameters and when it breaks have it towed home and call the dealer with "I was driving home going the speed limit and next thing I know there's a funny noise coming from the back and smoke pouring out of the exhaust. Fix my car for free."

Awkward. For sure not the case here in Europe and I thought the new car warranty is global. Hence equal conditions.
Been tracking mine since the day I got it, had warranty work done and even extended warranty by two additional years. No questions asked.

^Yes, not the case in Europe where there seems to be more integrity and less lawyers beating down everyone's door. Sue-happy entitled N. American market is the reason for the void warranty policy.
