I missed it too.. I did see their "... less rotating mass" justification for the CLs though

If I had the money, I would buy one too, if not just for the fact that I really like what it supposedly can do.
BTW all the GT3's seem special in their own way.
Cheers

The central locking device is derived from motorsport. Compared with the conventional five-bolt wheel connection, it offers enhanced performance thanks to the reduction in rotating masses.

Agreed. I would love to look him in the eye and ask him why they put the CL back on. Porsche, and Andreas Pruniger in particular, know EXACTLY how we want to use these cars, and yet they continue to stand by a poorly designed, poorly engineered system.
While A. P. seems like a decent enough human (I've never met him), how does he reconcile the extreme danger the CL are creating for his client base? What will it take, a death on track? Should the PCA and other car clubs ban this system on track?
What is this car for anyway, do they really think people are going to buy this to putter around at legal speeds or do high speed cruise on the Autobahn?
No! Porsche, A.P. and all of us know that this car lives to be tracked.
Please, Mr. Pruniger, if you are reading this and you are truly "not a marketing guy," just put the option up to check off "5 lug wheels." See what happens, see how many cars are ordered that way. Show us that you truly are "passionate" about these cars and want to include the very best system. There is no shame in admitting something does not work, the only shame is not learning from the data that is right in front of you.
I had a 997.2 GT3. Did over 50 track days in one year, went through 10 sets of tires. I am an engineer, and was meticulous in following procedures with the center locks. They do not offer faster wheel changes than 5 lugs. The unsprung weight savings are minimal. They increase the likelyhood of failure and now require expensive maintainence. There is no good reason to have them on the GT3.
I know we can convert these cars to 5 lugs, but I believe Porsche should do the engineering work and accept the responsibility for this, not us.
Sorry, rant over........

Quietly mentioned
In the press release...
"Again, the wheels come with a central locking system, which has been optimized further."
By now, we all know the CL's continue but Porsche sure isn't advertising the CL's as a major point on the car anymore. At least, relative to the other talking points on the chassis. Seems like a half-hearted mention by them. I wonder what 'optimized further' actually means?

I really like the car, and the PDK does not bother me. I do want a 5 lug option, even if it costs an extra $2,000.

Yes to 5 lug...but Porshe isn't listening to customers. They really don't care what we want.
