991 GT3

Date: 18 February 2013
Source: Unnamed
Location: Unknown

Information after discussion with the test driver and engineers and watching/touching the actual car

It sounds incredible. Exactly like a cup car.

Completely different PDK

Engine is a bespoke motorsports block, and the basis for the next gen Cup engine. Dry sump.

Yes, it's not the DFI 9A1 and it's not the Mezger. It's a new engine!

- RPM to 10K, redline 9 dead, 3.8L engine. Power is north of 450hp but they wouldn't say exactly.

- No PDCC, no PTV *at least not in this car

- New rear wing, very similar to 997.2 wing, but up close it's more refined

- Air scoop is beautiful, center feeding

- Car is running Dunlop Sport MAXX, 245/20 front 305/20 rear

- Car retains traditional 3 piece muffler, identical side mufflers as before but looks like a new, smaller center.

- New brake system, front caliper is ENORMOUS, disc is alternating drilled size.

- New recaro seats, foldable (not one piece), car was a Clubsport version fitted with the rear cage

- Ring times are right around 7.30

- Center locks

- ESC (electronic stability control), TC, sport exhaust, PDK-S (on the center console)

- Wide body chassis from C4

- rear control arms look like the ones in the 997 GT cars

More information (corrections) and perhaps a vid, later.

Best,

Very cool indeed! The engineer said that "we built this engine from scratch"..

Looking under the car you cannot see anything as the rear is covered with a metal? aluminum? cover. Not sure if it's camouflage or part of a new aero package.

For one more time, I would like to thank the fellow Rennlister that sent the information.

Not bad!

Porsche just won't let the horrible center locks go will they?

I'm excited about everything else.

911SLOW 02-18-2013 11:20 AM

"Center locks appear to be unfinished"

Veloce Raptor 02-18-2013 11:22 AM

PDK only = lost the plot

monochrom3 02-18-2013 11:30 AM

Thanks for posting. I'm curious on why they're going with 20's. Seems counter to what track guys would want.

If that's the final fitment, it clearly illustrates who & what their intended buyer is.

Good one! I didn't think that a dfi 9a1 could rev to 8.5k either:)

mdrums 02-18-2013 11:39 AM

Well there is always more cars like Izzone just bought.

911Jetta 02-18-2013 11:49 AM

Wow, sounds like a Cup car and revs to 9K...can't wait to hear it sing at VIR.

Regarding the rear wing, does it have active-aero (a pop-up Gurney flap)?

Finally real "spy" photos and not some marketing exercise. Well done and thanks to the spy

And for all those who bagged on me for installing bigger brakes over the years - here's a big FU.

9k redline- damn!

New RS should be interesting.

I see current used GT3 values at their peak right now. All downhill from here.
