So why did the car need to get a new motor after being close to 4 years old and less the. 6K miles?
Well I will quote the man himself as this is a known issue for GT3's and GT3RS's from 2014-2016:
Dr. Walliser told the group that the high-RPM misfire issue could be traced to a metallurgical defect in certain batches of "finger followers," a pivoting rocker arm in the valvetrain. Depending on driving style, finger followers with these defects are prone to increased wear, which, combined with many other factors, can lead to the high-rpm misfires experienced by certain owners.
The motor didn't "blow", it just lost some power and I took it to the dealer and they took care of it. It pays to be a loyal customer to the brand. Now someone gets to benefit from a brand new motor and a 2 year extension on it. The replacement motor includes the updated and revised camshafts and finger followers.

That's not an accurate quote he also said that the GT3RS doesn't suffer from the same issues. Hence there is no extra 10 year warranty on these motors.
Here is his statement below!
" What about the 991.1 GT3 RS and 911 R? While these engines share a similar architecture with the GT3, according to Dr. Walliser these models are not affected. He explained that there are many differences between the GT3 and R/RS engines. This seems to be consistent with our observations, as there are no known reports of issues with these models."

Ultimately...an RS is an RS. :-)

^ Correct.
The question was as to this particular car. I’m sure GMG may have the particular answer. They shouldn’t just be pointing to a generalized statement not even applicable to the RS imho.

That may be true but this engine had similar issues to what has been commonplace for the GT3, hence my reason to quote Walliser, plus this is NOT the only GT3RS that I know of that has had their motor replaced under warranty.
Best part is, you can get a 2 year extension on the warranty on the motor whereas most 991.1 RS's are out of warranty now.
I have 5 pages of service work during the tear down and replacement of the motor as initially they were only going to replace the valves but we worked it out where they replaced the entire motor.
I consider myself lucky as hell to get this done as initially the replacement motor was not approved......I had to pay approx $1250 for a $46.5K motor.
Per the paperwork from the dealer: "Removed Bank 2 Camshafts and inspected, found ok but upon inspection, found the inlet valve on cylinder 5 broken......"
