GT2RS Clubsport vs 991.2 Cup Car
 

As many of you recall, last year I was fortunate enough to get an allocation for a GT2RS. I thought it would be fun to answer the question many had, as to how well it would stack up against a the Porsche Race Car. Needless to say, it was a big hit and PCA was nice enough to help with a full production of the event. That brings me to my recent post. As luck would have it, I was selected to receive a GT2RS Clubsport and perhaps I was so lucky because of my previous video??? Whatever the case, I have decided to have a sequel to our first episode at the same event this year. While the venue has remained the same, the characters have changed!! This year we will pit the GT2RS Clubsport against a 991.2 Cup Car using the same professional driver Bryan Sellers. I am posting this because a high level of interest will help to generate some additional help to pull this off. It is a logistical nightmare as the Clubsport has to be picked up, prepped and delivered to the event. In order to get the car in time, PMNA has been kind enough to get us the first car into the US. It will be their press car used at the show in Boca Raton Florida. I welcome all comments but will likely not respond to Smart A$$ comments.

Hopefully we can pull this off. Still in the infancy stages and I will keep everyone posted with progress!

The 2RS Clubsport should be much faster at Road America than a cup car this time around. Slicks, aero, and proper motorsport suspension will make all the difference, but a proven setup on your cup vs. baseline on the 2RS Clubsport should make it closer. What tires are you going to run on both cars?

The Cup Car will be in Club Race spec and the 2Rs Clubsport will have the spec Michelin slicks that come with the car. If someone has a GT3R I would be more than happy to substitute for Cup. I can only provide what I have access to. The .2 Cup is a friends and he is allowing us to run it for the test.

Link to whatever video you're talking about from last year? I've not heard of it.

will be cool to see how this comes out, but on the surface for me this is a lot less interesting than your first event. two factory built race cars, both on slicks and one has way more power... i think we know the winner. maybe thats just my thoughts.

When do you get your GT2RS CS Stateside?
Where are you planning to race it?
I can't wait to drive the car at Spa in 3 weeks and compare it to a GT3R, Cup and MR Cup.
I do know the GT2RS CS is much heavier than a Cup car but obviously with a lot more power, I see it slotting nicely inbetween the GT3R and the Cup, probably close to the MR Cup, while being a little quicker at the bigger tracks.

Clubsport takes it this time as others have said. GT3R would be very interesting given the significant bump in aero and rubber over a Cup. My money would be on the R. I know of few around NE but not sure they'd willing to haul them to RA.

My plan is to do it at the David Murry event before the Labor Day Club Race as we did last year.My car is due in end of July and will be used at the Porsche Parade in Boca Raton before it will be delivered to Atlanta.

While I believe the 2RS CS will likely have a better lap time, I believe it will be much closer than many think. The 2RS is a hybrid street /race car and the Cup is a pure Race Car that is lighter and more nimble. Last years test at RA with the Cup against the 2RS showed that power kept it close until turn 5 but when the braking and twisty part of the road started, the lighter more nimble Cup took over. In any case, we will have a number of track times at the same track with the same pro and will give everyone a flavor for what these cars can do. I think the 2RS CS is the beginning of things to come from Porsche and is really a unique and valuable car to enjoy!

This one is going to be closer, but it should go to the GT2RS ClubSport.
Mark Webber with a passenger crossed under the Pirelli bridge at Mount Panorama at 1:49.4 (the back straight). The 2016 qualifying record lap (by an FIA-GT3 McLaren) passes that bridge 4 secs before than Weber, but Weber was on press-day mode plus a passenger, while the 650S-GT3 was in full attack mode.


The FIA-GT3 car from Porsche is the GT3 Cup R, not the slower 991.2 GT3 Cup.

Road America favors big horsepower, and the last time, the GT2RS Street car was handicapped by the MPSC2 N2 tires. On the Cup2-R and driven by Dave Donohue, it went 2 secs faster, and not taking anything from Dave, but if I have to bet on a driver for a fast lap, my money will go to Sellers.

Here is some information:

991.1 GT3 Cup (Brian Sellers): 2:11.98 (Michelin Slicks)
991.2 GT2 RS (David Donohue): 2:15.17 (Cup2-R-N0)
991.2 GT2 RS (Brian Sellers): 2:17.04 (Cup2-N2)
991.2 GT3 RS (David Donohue): 2:18.57 (Cup2-R-N0)

The slicks would give a street GT2RS another 2 secs, placing it in the 2:13s. Now comes the big changes: The GT2RS-CS is not just a lighter GT2RS, it is also on a track suspension (not the compromised street/track suspension for the street car), and a massive Aero package. My guess is that on slicks, the GT2RS-CS will run a 2:09 at Road America, and I doubt the 991.2 GT3 Cup will touch under 2:10s.

Predicted laps (with Brian Sellers driving as awesome as he did last time):

GT2RS-CS: 2:09.18
991.2 GT3 Cup: 2:10.48
