Own Both a GT3 and a Spyder?
I have been thinking about the 718 Spyder for a while. Currently driving a .2 GT3 with PDK, had a GT4 prior to that.
I'm greedy and want to keep both the Spyder and the GT3 - the best of both world.
However, there is no way I have time to drive both very often. None of them can be my daily commute due to our Canadian winter and where I park at work. Two weekend toy is too much.
I'm not one of the 'track rats' so my GT3 sees back road more often than race track.
Wonder what is the experience of owning both or move from one to another.
If you own both, how often do you still take your GT3 to the road?
If you move from a GT3 to a Spyder (or the other way around, or, have extensive experience in both), what is your take?
Appreciate your advice!

If you can afford both and want them, who cares. I have a 3RS and going to get a Spyder as well. If I could only have two Porsche's, that is a pretty good complimenting duo. Heck, with my Spyder, I will have 5 Porsche's and a daily driver and I work from home 4 days a week!

3RS.2 and 981 Spyder checking in here. I’m another advocate for both. They cover the field really well from open road to caged track use and compliment each other really well. If I had to pick one, I’d probably go for a GT3.2 MT... what irked me was while it offered the best of both worlds, it was also master of neither for open road nor caged track hence the RS and Spyder choice for me. Given you are coming from a GT3, I also think u will be missing the power in the Spyder... while engaging with manual gears, it’s also doesn’t have the thrust of the GT3 nor the rear engined mechanical grip. Not an easy choice.

GT3 when just me going out for a drive. Spyder when my wife and I are going somewhere and the weather is nice. She also drives it on her own when it's nice out but she doesn't put the top down. LOL.
Different cars. Get/keep both if you can.

I have a 991.2 C4 and a 981 BS. Also on a waiting list for a 992 GT3. I put about 9k miles/year on each of them. I was planning on having all 3 but keeping the GT3 for track duty only.
.....then the spyder came out. I really want that car. It looks fantastic. Now I am trying to figure out how to get the GT3 and replace my 981 with the spyder. That would be a big spend for me in just two years or so.
I really think a GT3 and a spyder is a perfect combo. ....but then you need a commuter car and people hauler.
If I could swing it, I would get the GT3, Spyder and keep my 991.2 C4 for commmunitng. Then use my wife's SUV for the people hauling. This seems totally reasonable to me.

Owned several GT cars, and a 981 Spyder. The Spyder didn't last very long - IMHO it needs a GT engine to make it perfect. I couldn't really ever find a time when I'd rather take the Spyder than a GT car for a spin.

Such diff cars. If no track and only one for weekend street fun, I'd personally go for the spyder. I traded my spyder for a Gt3 manual clubsport because was starting to be more track oriented with the "new car" and had older 911s for street. However I still miss the spyder for street; and now that I'm winding down a lot of heavy track use, I'd trade back for the spyder. Instead I'm just going to add the 718 spyder eventually and pair it with 991.2-3rs, which I think is the ultimate modern pair. It doesn't give you the old nostalgic ride but can't think of a modern pair I'd rather own.

Owning both I find spyder 80% street driven and gt3 80% track driven imho is a great combo. Checks so many boxes n never get tired of driving either car. The spyder I use on occasionally on short tracks like lime rock very capable / so much fun and gt3 Goes to the glen & Tremblant
as for the motor on the 981 spyder added ipd plenum w gt3 TB , cobb and Kline manifolds. totally transformed the power curve , dynoed 420 hp at the crank which is plenty of power for a 2900# car

Owned both cars, and as much as I loved the Spyder I did grab the keys more to the RS. I got the Spyder for a fun weekend car for me and the wife to enjoy, and the plan didn’t work as intended. She enjoyed it for awhile, but as one other poster said a tad more power/get rid of the tall gearing. Great car, but with the RS next to it 8 of 10 I chose the RS.
I sold the Spyder not because I did not like it but I just to use it as much as I bought it for? It became a garage queen, and that was never the intent. Best looking Porsche around, but for me under utilized. Good luck.

My plan is to trade my M2C for the new Spyder next year and keep my current .2 gt3 manual. The Spyder would replace the M2C as my dd. I work from home but would dd the Spyder regardless.

I have a GT4 and a GT3 Touring and my Touring is about to eclipse the mileage in the GT4. The GT3 has so much more edge to it while the GT4 is regular, predictable and for sale!

I owned both and am going back to the Spyder.. my spyder had engine mods like intake/tune/headers and some slightly wider rubber on it and I loved driving it so much, helps that we live in Northern California and weather was perfect for top down basically all year round. Gt3 was wonderful, but in most road conditions was too fast and not as engaging.. really required the track to enjoy it to its fullest. the 718 Spyder doesn't seem a significant upgrade.. thinking of finding another 918 spyder now.. too bad I had the nicest one I could think of and now would need to compromise.

Awesome input. Thank you very much.
You guys rule out my option of replacing the GT3 with a Spyder. Given my experience with my previous GT4, for sure I will regret it if I depart with my GT3.
Choice is clear, keep the GT3 or keep both.
