Do not waste your time and money with the app. It's total garbage. Ever wonder why Porsche didn't use the track app for their record runs at the ring?

+100. Track Precision App is completely worthless. It’ll take 10 tries to get it to actually talk to the car, then it will stop recording during your best lap. And when you go to compare it against your precious laps from earlier days, they’ll suddenly go missing.

For basic track recording, I’d just use Harry’s. If you want it for real analysis of where you can improve, then VBOX HD2 seems like the most impressive setup.

^ Good advice. Never worked well on my GT4 or 15 GT3. Thankfully my 18 GT3 doesn't have it.

Actually the 2018 does have the track app. Porsche included it as standard. It’s. It wired for the physical lap trigger sensor, that you need the sport chrono package.

porsche just released a new update for the app, they say it’s completely reworked. Only looked at it real quick. Has more tracks then before.

It has been completely reworked. Whether that translates into better reliability remains to be seen.

I've never used VBOX. What makes it superior to AIM? AIM gets a lot of bad reviews (deservedly) for the terrible software. But that applies more to the data logger than the camera. The camera is pretty great once it's properly configured. But alway interested in what else is out there.

I just finished my second track weekend this year (4 last year). App worked flawlessly in every one. Total respect for others who have had issue because I have heard that it can be twitchy - but it might be worth seeing if it works for you. Super easy to use and it gives you most of the data you would like; brake, throttle, steering, etc. Easy to review on your phone right after a run session.

My only complaint would be the file size when you export video/data. Takes forever.

I am sure a custom setup with multiple cameras would be a step up, but, for the ease and investment I have been super happy with it.

Thats right a new version came out in Jan 2019.

I just download the data from sports chrono and plot in excel - ultimately the limitations with these types of systems relate to the GPS frequency rate e.g. iphone one reading per second in contrast to quality motorsport gear which read at 10Hz-100Hz depending on price.

Having said that even with 1Hz data its possible to reliably asses ones friction circle, spot transitions and firm up braking points. A lot of 1Hz data can be better than a little 100Hz data.

I always find the data to be far more useful than the video.

New version did not work at all for any recording at Watkins Glen this weekend. There is a longer note I added in the GT4 part of Rennlist. The last version worked quite well for me, this one would never start recording, with external GPS or phone. It The app starts logging when you cross start/finish -- even with early versions bigs I could get to wok. However, I tried many combinations to get it to work and it would never register crossing the start/finish. If you actually use the app, I recommend to stay away from v3 for now.

For reference, I have been using it over the last three+ years and P once had heir team reach out to a few of us that helped provide bug details that they fixed and made it better. This new release has put a nice face but otherwise did NOT work at all for me.

At least I had some data to work with from another logger. I nearly am ready to give up and support Joe's description of it being useless. P did get it working with some versions and shows promise but each version is really questionable regarding what they will break.

Actually the latest version 3.0.2 came out 3 days ago.

I would NOT upgrade yet, I used the old version at the track just before the upgrade and it worked for 7 of the 8 sessions. Just exploring the v3 upgrade, features will make the app crash for example the option to compare laps. this app looks like it was untested before release.

Very much agree. Recommend skipping this release, at least for iPhone.

I have used the Track app since I got my GT3 with good results once I programmed my track into it. I think it is more than adequate for the data I need to assess my driving on track. I updated to the new app and have not had any issues revisiting old track sessions with the new User interface. I know there are much better data loggers, but it works well for me.
