LeMans 2019...calling Guest 89 ...predictions?
In case most were too busy deciding what color CCX stitching and the like to spec on their RS you will be pleased to know Porsche as of now has earned enough points for the WEC Championship in GTE Pro so the 3RSs WEC homolgated counterpart is World Champ!
Looks like Ford wants a second LeMans title sending 4 cars. Porsche is responding with the two Brumos livery cars and two other RSRs in new gold livery. Pilots of the RSRs are all top notch and fan favorites including Pilet, Estre , Bamber etc.. Should be a slug fest. There is no love lost between the Ford and Porsche teams.
predictions?
Hope for for an exciting race

Porsche:
4 cars, same as last year
Last year the Manthey cars (91, 92) were stronger than the CORE cars from IMSA (93, 94); this year the IMSA cars should be closer (there's more collaboration between the teams now)
Cars 91, 92, 93 are all strong - I think car 93 probably has the strongest overall driver lineup: Nick Tandy, Earl Bamber, Patrick Pilet; Car 94 has several Le Mans rookies
BOP will be tough for Porsche (there is no auto bop at Le Mans, remember) - they won it last year, they won the Manufacturer title, and they are guaranteed the drivers title
Ford:
4 cars, same as 2016-2018 (i.e., every year they have raced at LM)
They are gone after this year so will lobby for a generous BOP
Ferrari:
3 semi-factory cars, carping about BOP all year
Aston Martin:
2 cars
Dog slow last year in the new car's LM debut; they are the BOP masters and will probably get a generous BOP
BMW:
2 cars
Dog slow last year and they're leaving WEC in a huff after Le Mans; ACO will probably give them a terrible BOP
Corvette:
2 cars
This is probably (?) the final Le Mans for the front engined C7.R and the 20th anniversary of Corvette Racing at Le Mans
They were fast on the test day, the team is very well practiced - they will be fast

New RSR friday at PAG press conference

992 RSR? Hearing Porsche is now interested in hypercar regs. Also Chevy with new Vette might run ZR1 in that class.

I should elaborate ... updated RSR.
I presume they will style it with 992 front and rear fascia given the greenhouse is the same or virtually the same between 991 and 992.

There’re videos of the mule testing on youtube. It’s basically a 991.2.2 RSR haha

Meanwhile:
Ford is done with WEC after this weekend; will finish the year in IMSA; there is a possibility of Multimatic/privateer entries next year but the car won’t be developed like it has been with Ford money
BMW is done with WEC after this weekend and could very well be leaving IMSA at year end, as well; the M8 GTE is also quite slow
The Ferrari 488 is older than the RSR, but will presumably be superseded by an F8 Tributo GTE car; I haven’t seen such a car testing, so it probably wouldn’t be ready for the next WEC season this autumn
The Corvette C7.R is done this year, most likely; no official announcement regarding debut timeline of the forthcoming C8.R or whether it will race during the full WEC season (doubtful)
Aston Martin’s new vantage debuted last year and has improved - they are quick in the rain but not otherwise; they don’t race in IMSA

Race Car
Some of my pictures to illustrate.
It is quite difficult to have a nice picture, but from time to time, I'm lucky.
The first practice session biggest event was the crash of the #99 Porsche, with Tracy Krohn at the wheel. I hope that he is fine, because the car is destroyed and we wonder if it will be rebuild for the race.
The first qualification session was quieter, with only "minor" incidents.
Second and third qualification sessions this evening.

I’m not entirely sure why a refresh is needed so quickly. The RSR is the the dominant car right now in both IMSA and WEC, and it will have completed only two seasons of WEC (2017 and the 2018-2019 Super Season) and three seasons of IMSA (2017-2019).

The Porsches are all quick and generally run by good teams; Ben Keating's Ford is nowhere
Well, nothing is "guaranteed" (i.e., no announcements yet regarding entrants, calendar, etc.); however:
Updated / new RSR - 2 cars
New Corvette C8.R - 2 cars
BMW M8 - 2 cars (if they don't leave)
Risi Ferrari 488 - 1 car, occasionally
It could very well be Porsche vs. Ferrari...
