Quick update here; issue with my car is resolved. Dropped my car off on 5/31 at my local dealership, Porsche of the Main Line in Newtown Square, PA and they returned the car to factory configuration in the ECU. So now the DRL's operate as they should.

They informed me that the previous owner seems to have had the dealer that sold the car disable the DRLs. So I can confirm that it is possible to disable in the ECU.

They said they had to go through a number of settings to find the right one and so unfortunately I can't report back as to exactly which setting needs to be toggled, but for anyone looking to do this it may be as simple as a conversation with your local dealer and maybe an hour of labor to get it switched off.

Unfortunately, my dealer wouldn't switch them off for fear of nonsensical liability. (Nonsensical as other P cars don't have mandatory DRLs.)

I can report the Japanese software product, described above, does work on US spec cars. Yahoo! Now my DRLs are off and are staying that way.

I remember having the dealer doing this to my Lexus, turns out the law in the United States required DRL but Canada didn’t and that’s why it’s even an option. FYI my dealer didn’t even know it was possible, I brought them a bulletin I found on the Lexus forum.

There is no US law requiring DRL. It's a myth.

I also believe its a myth, if it were true it would discriminate against people who couldn't afford a car w/DRLs, I believe they are required in canada

Anyone who wants control of their DRLs back, the Plug Concept DRL will enable the option to turn your DRLs ON/OFF at your desire.

Happy to help get it to other RL owners, drop me a PM.

bringing this thread back to life. I have a 991.1 gt3. Is there a way to enable the DRLs when the headlights are ON? Thanks!
