Default Retrofit radio delete — options/considerations?

I’m looking into deleting the radio/NAV unit from my base audio U.S. GT3.

However, I’d like to retain music and backup camera functionality through my iPhone. I think I have the music question solved—just install a Bluetooth amplifier under the passenger seat.

The more complicated problem is the backup camera. Ideally, I would just output the factory camera to my phone, but I assume this is essentially impossible from a software/interface perspective. Or is there a workaround? Have people outputted PCM to their phones or tablets somehow?

The alternative seems to be installation of an aftermarket camera that wirelessly outputs to my phone, but I’m reluctant as quality/appearance seems subpar across the board. Also, I don’t want to drill any holes. Any thoughts or experiences?

There are aftermarket cameras that display in the rearview mirror. Perhaps that's an option.

Curious as to why you would want to do this? Sounds like you want the functionality of PCM....without PCM?? The weight savings couldn't be that significant for the hassle to be worth it.

Hate the look of the screen smack dab in the middle of the console. Reminder of inevitable obsolescence.

That should make it easier. The amp is in the PCM apparently in the 991.2 base stereo. So an adaptor harness to your Bluetooth amp/receiver should let you keep your stereo. I don’t know what happens with the non-audio PCM functions if you go radio delete, however, I am trying to figure that out. I also can’t help on the rearview camera.

This is a great idea, I never thought of this and was considering deleting my PCM anyways.

They sell them for replacing the radio in nearly any car, and I assume it’s true for 991.2 PCM, an adaptor harness, which plugs into the factory plugs that go into the radio, and then have wires on the end.

Here is on for a cayenne:

https://www.amazon.com/Metra-Porsche-Cayenne-Radio-Harness/dp/B07NQTTH3J/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=metra+porsche&qid=1558906251&s=gateway&sr=8-7 https://www.amazon.com/Metra-Porsche-Cayenne-Radio-Harness/dp/B07NQTTH3J/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=metra+porsche&qid=1558906251&s=gateway&sr=8-7

I assume what you are trying to do with a bluethooth amp, is to have the radio work via Bluetooth. So you would remove the radio, buy and fit an adaptor harness to the wires into the stock radio, splice that harness into the harness for the Bluetooth amp/receiver, put the new Bluetooth amp somewhere like under the seat, run your harness to that for whatever wires you need, and that should power the factory speaks and you control the Bluetooth amp from your phone.

Sorry but there's no way I would do this. I use Waze all the time, just for the speed camera and police notifications.

Thats why my shelf is still in the closet. I really like pothole alert as I was too cheap to pay for wheel/tire insurance.

Waze is on my iPhone. The whole point is to use my iPhone for stuff like that, with the audio running through the existing speakers.

Just DIY'd it today. Super happy with reclaiming a storage space in my center console (I had nowhere to put my phone before). Problem though is I'm getting a "System Fault" at startup. Will likely need a PIWIS re-code to completely disable the PCM check.
