991.1 GT3 RS vs 488 GTB ?

Next purchase, so I am a bit sat on the fence here as I know I can easily chip tune the 488 GTB to 700 hp+, no track days planned, thoughts please ? I currently have a 430 Scud, 430 Spider, Boxster 981 GTS

Drove the 488 but not the new RS. Comparing what I have had in the past for me it would be the RS. You have the Scud, only car I've ever regretted selling....the 488 is blistering fast but for me it's the NA engine until there are no options....

You’re on a Porsche forum. I’m sure if you posted on F Chat you’d get different responses.
Just drive both and decide.

The better question is for similiar price point 430 scuderia or 458 Italia? :)

Do you love power more, or do you leave track-ability more? RS has more tire, and feels very planted compared to 488 which dances around quite a bit on the torque. 488 also "feels" heavier despite lighter steering rack.

Not sure for road use.. would probably go ferrari, but on track RS better IMO

street driving and wine tasting = 488
track = RS

simple

NOTE: while I believe an RS is a better track car than a 488 - that's not the trust of my argument - tracking a 488 is a very quick and decisive trip to bankruptcy - accelerated wear/tear on a Ferrari is an expensive, thing, and while tracking an RS isn't cheap, it's cheaper than a Ferrari by a lot…I have a co-work big in the ferarri community and he tracks his F car's - the amount of money he spends keeping them working and running well is truly stunning vs. my GT3 budget.

Get the 488

Waxer 05-10-2019 09:47 PM

Get the RS. 488s are the Italian Vette. See them everywhere. RS is a much better track weapon, 9k rpm NA flat 6, more durable, better resale value and imo just a better car.

The RS is also just as if not more exotic looking and rarer to see in the wild by far.

See below track time comparisons. 488 has 160hp and 200 lbs/tq advantage. Despite this the track times say it all.

IMO not close. 488.

kyrocks 05-10-2019 11:30 PM

488 for show and sex appeal. RS is just another 911. What could be better than a Ferrari?!!

Drifting 05-10-2019 11:55 PM

Not the best comparison as price is quite different.

However if price is no object then it really comes down to whether or not you plan to track the car at least every other month. If yes, get RS, if no get 488, as the Ferrari is faster, best sounding non NA car, but will fall apart with regular track work.

Instead of the 488 why not the new F8 Tributo?
