Wait. What?

So you want more touring and you want it to perform better on track??

- 4th to 5th shift is too much of a deliberate push and up. it’s not a natural flow, at least not compared to my other Pcars.
- zip difference between PSE on and off

what do I like? Not much compared to my other Pcars. At the moment, it’s my least favourite.

Correct. I didn't put 2 & 2 together, but you are right. The OEM Dunlops flung every grain of sand, pebble, etc... into the wheel wells. The PS4S's are a lot quieter... I wish the Touring was even noisier.

My previous 2018 winged had Michelin and my 2019 touring has Dunlop. That may be the reason for most of the additional noise?

Not sure about the PS Cup 2's, but the Pilot Sport 4S's (that I switched to with 287 miles on the odometer) are MUCH quieter than the OEM Dunlop Maxx Race 2's.

Don't know why but from memory my Touring seems to be louder inside than my .2 Winged GT3 Manual (sold in January), so I'm going to add sound deadening mats to the rear of the car to quiet it down a little - to make it perfect for touring. I did the same to the RS to compensate for the side muffler delete and the interior noise level is now quieter than stock when cruising, but louder when hauling butt. It took about 6 hours on the RS, but this time around, 4 hours would be sufficient as I can get to the back with the sofas folded.

Correct!

i don’t know how many of you have actually tracked or toured in their Touring but I now have over 10,000 kim’s in the car including 2,000 kim’s on track at Spa, Zolder, etc and 8,000 kim’s “touring” so these comments relate to my experience with the car.

i have never used sixth gear on track. Even at Spa on the looong Kemmel straight you only ever pull 5th. The only time you use 6th is on the highway so why not make it longer for more relaxed touring?

With regards to the noise inside the cabin, it’s just not a pleasant noise. There is too much harsh road noise and exhaust drone which makes it louder than a .2 GT3 RS. Indeed, my RS is a better “touring” car than my Touring. Only a few weeks ago, myself and two buddies took my RS, Touring and 996 GT3 RS on a 1,000km road trip together. Least preferred car on the highway......the Touring! That makes no sense. I would like less of the nasty cabin noise and more pure exhaust noise with a more discernible difference between PSE Off vs On.

On track, it’s pretty good, not much to change to improve it except 2nd gear baulks too often when trying to grab it when the car is loaded through left hand 2nd gear corners such as the chicane onto the straight at Zolder. And I am not the only one to report this.

Make these changes and it would far better on the road and better on track.

Well, the PSE is quite frankly a bit of a joke to me. I would say that it is absolutely right there's no noticeable difference between on/off. The only difference is at idle where the valves are open in PSE ON. But even then, the valves close when starting rolling away and do not open until ~3800-4000rpm. In PSE OFF, the valves are closed at idle, stay closed when rolling away and open at ~4000rpm (to lower back pressure and ensure correct performance). So => No difference as soon as the car is rolling.

I would even put my chin out and state that the PSE's (or rather the valves') only function is to reduce the drone between 2000-3500 by channelling the gases through the side mufflers.

Regarding tyre noise I can only agree that it is a bit irritating, but on the other hand I don't feel the GT3 is much worse than my 981 CGTS on PZEROs or my 997S on Michelin PS. At the moment, since I again have disconnected the PSE valves, the drone almost overshadows tyre noise

Chris3963, I’ve commented that while the touring is a great car, it’s not a great touring car. It’s a gt3 w/out a wing . But, I disagree with assessment that .2 3rs makes a better road car. The suspension is more punishing, steering more twitchy and I thought TONS of road noise in the RS. I think the 991.1rs is the best touring car out of the entire lineup (compliant suspension, tame engine unless at redline......it’s a cushy ride).

To the OP, I love it for the balance it strikes between a track car and a street toy. If I wasn’t going to the track at all, I’d pick something else. For a car that’s fun on the street and the track, I think it does an amazing job as a Swiss Army knife.

while you're obviously right, there is no denying that much of the market views the GT3 Touring as a separate model. btw, aren't there some other differences besides the no-wing part? i've always preferred wing since that's the gt3 i grew up with but a buddy of mine got a gt3 touring and while i don't know that touring is the best name for it, i have to admit it's damn impressive

Just a few cosmetic differences, but wing is the only functional difference (and the Touring doesn't have Race Track setting on the TPMS).

i've heard GT3 Touring owners say the cabin is louder. is that true -- and if so, what would explain that?

Likely due to the Touring’s conical air intake box. Same as the R, but different than the wing GT3 and RS.
